I see in my new Eckler's book that there is a new device out now that is 2 battery clicks connected to the connector that holds a 9v battery that will keep the settings stored when the battery is disconnected.

Have any of you tried this yet or a similar device to keep the settings stored? Do you think this device will work?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

It would be useless for an '81, imho.
The "Memory Savers" are maily meant for keeping the memory when the battery is disconnected on cars with a lot of computer modules, such as the later model Corvettes. The 9v battery will be enough to keep the memory for the modules(keep the modules "Alive"), such as radio station pre-sets(and anti-theft code, if equipped), as well as idle speed, timing, etc.
On an '81, it might only be good for keeping the radio station pre-sets. The ECM really doesn't "Store" any settings of consequence.
