Hey folks, was wondering if I can get a little help? Anyone have a picture of the solenoid wiring.  I have the download of the wiring diagram(thanks soooo much, been great) but I am not with the car right now and the guys helping me do the car are having a hard time finding the proper wires.  Even a description from the firewall woould be helpful.  They did find the wire from the battery, good for them!
Thanks,
Dave

OK OK!! Don't listen to what I write, Read what's locked down deep in the dark recesses of my aging mind.Confused
Sorry about that, starter solenoid.  The guy helping is my kid(he really needs to help me on tis project for a couple of personal reasons) and he doesn't have access to a computer right now so sending him the wiring diagram won't help.  I was lookig for more of a description where he can see the wires coming from the firewall for instance.  It's been along time since I've seen it so, as you can tell by my previous post, I am of little help to him.

Thanks again as always,
Dave

The starter solenoid is fairly simple. THere are three terminals/studs on the starter solenoid...one large one in the center of the solenoid, and two smaller studs on either side of the larger one.
You have the large red cable from the battery on the large center terminal/stud. On that same stud will be at least two, possibly 3 other red wires, each with a fuse-link on them. The fuse links will normally be about 4-5 inches up from the starter. These two(or three) other red wires are what basically carries the 12v power to the rest of the car, and the fuse-links protect the circuits.

The only other wire you'll have on the starter is the medium sized, purple wire, which comes from the ignition switch. This wire connects to the solenoid terminal closest to the engine block. If this wire is installed on the outer terminal/stud of the solenoid, the car will not start/crank.

Are you(they) having a problem with the starter or something?

Thanks, guys.
No problem with starter.  New motor install.  I pulled the engine and marked all wires...ALL WIRES. A friend "helped me out" by cleaning up the engine compartment and took of all the tags "because they looked messy"Cry.  Luckily I was able to reidentify most of the wires.  I guess I didn't take it far enough.

There is sometimes a large-ish black wire in that area with a large eyelet, similar to the one on the battery cable. Make sure that wire is NOT connected to the solenoid anywhere! It is a ground, and should be on one of the bellhousing bolts. The only wires that go on the large, center stud on the solenoid will be red, or pinkish.

That's a great illustration/graphic, Bob!

All is well.  This is why I hate others working on my car.  When I went on a parts run over to my mechanic he showed me his problem.  I reached into a box of new and refurbished parts and pulled out the wiring harness he didn't know existed.  Why can't I get these mechanics to read my mind?  Shouldn't they know where I leave this stuff?!Rolling On The Floor Laughing

Thanks for the great info and illustration

Yeah...you really should've told the guy the car was not all in one piece before he started werkin on it. It's not like you can just look at it and see that the wiring harness is missing!!!

Glad ya'll got it handled, tho!
