So suddenly my brake lights have stopped working. Checked the fuses and bulbs and all good. Turn signal and tail lights work fine.
Here is what I know so far by looking at the wiring diagrams:
- Brake switch appears to be working. Checked and I have voltage on both sides of the switch once the peddle is depressed. 12v on the white wire going to the connector for the directional switch in the column once depressed
- On the green and yellow wires going to the back, I have 12v once I depress the brake peddle on the main connector at the steering column coming from the directional switch. I do not have 12v at the bulb socket in the rear to turn the brake lights on.
Once I turn on the directional switch, the voltage at the main connector on the steering column will fluctuate accordingly with the direction selected. The same happens at the bulb socket for the corresponding direction. I still do not have 12v on the other side to turn on the brake light.
So the brake lights and turn signals are powered from the same wires coming from the directional switch. So what am I missing, why do I not have brake lights if I am getting 12v at the main connector and my turn signals are working.
Is this something in the switch assembly in the steering column? Are there just two wires connected to the brake switch as it is hard to get up under there to see.
Just a thought, I should be able the jump the white wire to either the yellow or green wire and the brake light should light up when I depress the peddle. If so, than that points towards something in the column directional switch that is defective. If they don't, I'm going to shoot it and put it out of it's misery or just have a stiff drink. Decisions, decisions, lol..
