Well, got the switch installed....that was the easy part. Tried for several hours to get it adjusted to work properly....but....could only get the lights to come on and stay on or go out and stay out....now realizing why previous owner tore the Censored switch off and put a switch under dash. Anybody have any secrets to getting to work properly???
The above adjustment diagrams don't seem to match my switch. Linkage rod looks different.

The PO had the wrong shift fork so maybe he has the wrong linkage for the back up light? Just a thought. Hope you get it straightened out!

Hard to say what the issue might be without seeing what ya got, but....I believe there are different switch/linkage set-ups for the Muncie, and the Borg Warner. The photo of mine that Bob posted above is a Muncie.
Have you tried flipping the linkage?

Joel, have a muncie and have it installed per the above photo with the bend in the rod on the switch and straight part of rod hooked to reverse arm. It appears there isn't much movement of the linkage rod when going in and out of reverse. Is this normal?
When I said rod looks different I was referring to the adjustment diagram not the photo.

Don't s'pose you could take a pic of what you have, and how it's mounted?
You may need to tweek(er...bend) the linkage rod, making it longer/shorter. I don't think the switch can be installed backwards, so that's prolly not the problem....I just wish I could actually see what you have...Disapprove

Going to be away for a few days but when I get back Sunday I'll get a pic for you Joel. It pretty much looks like the pic in this post. I also did try to make rod longer/shorter by bending with no success. Sort of gave up after that. Cry

No one elas has mentioned this, but mine has two elongated holes where the switch bolts on the bracket. SOME adjustment can be made on the bracket itself.

Uhmmmm....a '74 should have the Borg Warner Super T-10 in it....
The set-ups are similar for both, anyway. Mine is on the ground right now, or I would crawl under it and take a snap of how mine is. I might have a pic somewhere on one of the computers at home, but....I ain't holding my breath.

fyi for everyone...The BW T-10 has 9 bolts holding the side/shift cover to the case. The Muncies have 7, as seen in the above photo. Thumbs Up

Is this the switch you have, Dan?

Jacked it up today and relized it is darn near impossible to take a decent pic with the exhaust pipe and how close it is to the body. The switch looks like the one in your pic, Joel, and the whole setup looks like the pic above of the whole side of tranny. It does have 7 bolts on the shift arm cover and the shop guy that rebuilt it told me it was a rock crusher. This is about the best I could do on a pic:

Yeah Dan...takin pics under the car sux, at best!
Looks like it's all correctly connected, for sure. My only suggestion at this point is to put the trans in Reverse, disconnect the linkage from the switch, move the lever on the switch until the lights come on. Then bend the linkage to fit. Reverse should pull the linkage to the rear of the car, and going to neutral should push the linkage forward. If the switch seems to work backwards from that, there may be a problem with the switch not being correct, or defective.
