This is on the 81. I drove the car in the dark for the first time and notice that the lights at a stop light go dem.  The voltage gage would charge past the mid point when taking off then at a stop drop to the neg. I will take the alt off and get get it check. But if that is not the problem what would cause the problem?

Of course, check all of the battery connections, including the ground cable under the seat(on the frame), and the ground from the frame to the engine block by the starter.
The alt is the most likely culprit, for sure, but be certain to check/clean/tighten the battery connections, too.

Ok its not the alt. Had it check and it check ok. The neg cable is ok I replace it 2 weeks ago. I am having some problem with the positive cable. Next I will take the battery off and have it check. I believe its the battery.  On the positive side I don't think its getting a good tight connection I can never get the bolt to be tight. I can turn and turn the bolt and it does not tight.

Hey replace the battery the car does not cut out Tongue thats good.  But, the lights still to seem to go deem? I notice that the electrical gage needle stays at 13 when stop and goes positive when I take off. I check with a altimeter and it read 12.22 at idol and 14 when I rev it up. Is this normal?
