Now I've got the essentials working time for the nice to haves!
I have no interior lights and while I'm in the door switches the door ajar light doesn't work either.
On initial investigation the wires to all the door switches have been cut, with the exception of one white wire to the drivers door jamb switch.
On the wiring diagrams there is a 12 way connector that the Lt Blue and White wires both pass through but I don't know where to find it?
The car also had the alarm option but most of those wires are cut as well looks like Bubba went mad with the snips!
If I can find that multi way connector I might be somewhere I can start checking these systems out.

Thanks
Graham

Red 70 convertible.
Re connected the cut wires for the door ajar switches and the light seems to work as it should except one switch is faulty and the other needs adjusting so the door presses on it enough to switch off the light.
I lifted the shifter panel from the console and found more cut wires and a few extras one a permanent live connected to the cigar lighter, even though the original orange was in there again cut off! I stripped the cigar lighter socket and made sure all was well in there as I've had problems with these in the past, once reassembled I reconnected the original orange lead and it worked fine.
The bulb holder for the heater control lighting was lying in there but I couldn't see where it went and I didn't have a bulb for it so that will wait for another day.
There were 3 yellow leads coming in from the rear of the car which look like they're original but can't think what they could be for.
The fibre optics for the rear lights have gone so that explains why they don't work, the only ones which still function are the front sidelight/indicators.
Still got to get started on the cut wires for the courtesy lights, the switch in the drivers door jamb seems to be OK just got to find where to reconnect the cut wires!

Thanks
Graham

I was having a go at getting the defective door ajar switch out for the drivers door and it looks like the 2 pop rivets have given way any tips for attaching these again?
I'm guessing if I drill the old heads off I might be able to line them up and punch a couple of new rivets in? Then a good dose of penetrating oil and hopefully get the switch out?
Thanks
Graham

Are you talking about the switch on the FRONT of the door jamb, or the one on the rear(for the alarm)? Iirc, the front switch threads directly into the steel birdcage...no rivet plate there. The REAR switch does thread into a riveted plate.
The rear switch can be accessed from the inside by removing the quarter trim....kinda. It's hard to get to, but there are a couple of openings there that you can work with. If the whole thing is loose inside the door pillar, with only the wiring holding it, you can extract it by pulling it out using the wiring. Getting it back in is a little more involved, but still doable. Regular pop rivets will hold it back together. Ouch

Thanks Joel, yes the rear one for the door ajar light, I've got the passenger side working but the one on the drivers side was seized so I thought I'd take it out and see if I could get it free but the rivets gave way and now it just spins.
I got to the passenger side through the square plate in the wheel well but it seemed to be a double skin where the plate lives so I was a bit sceptical about how to get to it, I'll try to rivet it back in place and then hopefully with lots of penetrating fluid the switch will come free.

Graham

Hello I'm new to the forum.  I have a 77 (late) that I am remodeling.  I have replaced the interior dash wiring harness.  Everything works except for the interior courtesy lights (dome light and floor lights).  I'm not sure what I am missing here.  Troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated.

Lost track of this one, I've replaced the defective switch on the drivers door for the door ajar light and it now works as it should, after drilling out the remains of the pop rivets one by one and replacing them.
I haven't got deeply into the interior lights yet but when I was tidying up the radio wiring I found the passenger side footwelll light tucked inside the dash space so once I've found all the cut wires I'll have a go at that, if you look at the top of this section there's a link to a guy with original wiring diagrams for all our cars he will e-mail them to you.
