Ok, Vette has been out of commission all winter because my windows are stuck down and it needs to be driven. All of the fuses appear ok.

I have taken the console and center dash out and have begun unwrapping wires trying to find a fusible link somewhere. It looks like the factory used one of those cheap blue snap connectors to tie the cruise control into the main window supply wire in the consol, so I don't know if this could have been the cause?

Anyway, can anyone tell me if there is a hidden fusable link I am missing somewhere?
Thanks,Mark

Window circuits are protected by a circuit breaker. Should be under the hood, driver side, between the brake booster and the wiper motor, attached to the firewall there. Not sure on the '76, but that's where the earlier cars were. Check for 12v on BOTH of the terminals at the circuit breaker first.

If the circuit breaker is located in the engine bay, that's a really bad location due to heat and what that can do to a breaker's life.  I've been in a car that had an underhood circuit breaker for the power windows and had it fail due to heat in 95+ degree temperatures.  The engine was running very hot and the power windows failed to work...in the up position.  Due to the engine running so hot I couldn't run the a/c...great suffering on my part followed.

You can bet I installed a new circuit breaker inside the cabin under the dash...no further problem.

I had the same problem last summer. I had to pull the door panel and discovered the window had over ran its stop and "over cam'd" itself by falling down to far. This due to that BIG mainspring coming undone. I managed to raise the window by hand then it took off. I ended up limiting the travel
by fabricating a rubber block and placing it in the bottom of the door frame for a quick fix.
Didn't feel like pulling the whole track assembly out to rewind the mainspring at the timer . Another project.

Could be the switches themselves in the console... i had my windows down once.. They got wet and corroded the contacts in the switches...

When I got my car the windows did not work most of the time, I replaced the switches and they have worked fine for 7 years now. You need to check for power at each part of the circuit to see where the problem is. Good luck with it.
