Hi,
New guy here (and new to Vette owning, yea!). 1972 Stingray with an 80-85 350. I've been reading posts for hours now.

I drove it all over town yesterday, got gas, stopped at another place briefly and the car started fine. I go out later and it's dead. I replace the battery and negative clamp because it was too big (wouldn't tighten). The negative cable seems to be OK and is tightly attached to the frame. Still nothing, no interior lights, no gauges, no PW, no clicks, no nothing. Since the car is completely dead, does that rule out the Fusible Links? I've checked out the starter and the wires they have there don't at first glance match what would typically be on a 72, the two Fusible links that should be there aren't apparent. They also have a bunch of tape around some of the wires so I can't really tell if the links are there or not. It's not high enough off the ground to get a good look and get two hands on the wiring to look. The engine-to-frame ground looks good and solid. I really don't know what else to check but it's definitely just something not making the connection. I'm at a loss right now, any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

get a multimeter if you don't have one, then start with the battery to check voltage.  yea, new ones go bad especially when you're having fun.  there's a harbor freight tools in aurora and colorado springs.  or take the battery to one of the auto parts stores that test for free.  if you have the auto club, they will come out.I worry when you say some of the wires are taped up..  Best of luck, we've all been there.

The battery measured 12.596v on the multimeter. And yes, the tape could be something. At this point I think I'm just going to have it towed to a shop tomorrow. If anyone has a good recommendation of a shop in Denver, that would be great. In looking at reviews for shops, it seems most either really have a problem or just have pissed off enough people to have bad reviews. There's not one I've found in the area that doesn't have a "never go to this place, period." review.

Jon, there are fuselinks down by the starter, and some over on the driver side fenderwell going to the horn relay. The horn relay is also used as a junction block, so check for power there as well. Check for voltage at the large terminal on the alternator, too. Check the ground cable for the frame to the passenger side engine mount....those can give trouble sometimes.
It sounds like someone may have cut the fuselinks out down by the starter. You really need to get under there and check what's under that tape....certainly don't want a fire starting!!
