Starting about 2 weeks ago when I turn the enging off my radio stays on for approximately 5 seconds.  After I turn the engine off I can turn the radio off and it goes off but, if I turn it back on within the 5 seconds it will come back on until the 5 seconds elaps.  The only thing I have done in the last 2 weeks is put on a nosie filter between the radio hot wire and the fuse box, and replaced the antenna. I think I took the nosie filter off and it still did the same thing but not sure if I did or not.  Any ideas?

Put a test light on the hot wire before the filter and turn the car off. Then do the same after the filter. If you're getting juice after the filter but not before, it's got something to do with the filter. If it does light on both sides or doesn't light the test light on both sides, it's something further back in the wiring or in the radio itself - but at least you can prove out you new filter.

It sounds to me like your filter is the culprit. Never heard of that being a condition with a noise filter on a radio before though. Does that bugger get warm or hot with the ignition on and the radio playing or when it's off?

Good luck!!

Paul

Some noise filters are, or contain, a capacitor.  The radio staying on is just the capacitor discharging.  It is perfectly safe.

Thanks guys I'll try checking the filter with a test lite.  I have been tied up with other things but tomorrow I should be free to check things out.  Thanks again.

Larry was right. Took the filter off (it wasn't doing any good anyway) and radio turns off with the switch.
Thanks.
