Not necessarily the ignition switch...a bad starter solenoid will do the same thing. And a whole lot easier to replace Exclamation

Could also be the neutral (or clutch, if it's a standard) safety switch...

The ignition switch is on the column, but down at your feet.  The lock cylinder just moves a rod down the column to the switch.  Pretty easy to change, two screws and two plugs.

Thanks for the input.  If the new switch doesn't fix the problem I'll test the selenoid.  I'm changing the headers so it'll be an easy test.

You can test the ignition switch before replacing it. You need a volt meter....not a test light....you wanna see how much voltage is there. Check the purple wire on the inside terminal of the solenoid. With the key in the "Start" position, you must have 12v. If you don't see a minimum of 10.5 volts there, then you may have a bad ignition switch, neutral safety switch, or wiring issues. If you do have 12v there, then the solenoid is prolly crap.
This is assuming, of course, that you have power to the rest of the car....headlights, interior lights, etc. If not, then you may well have a burned fuse link, which could cause the no crank problem. Thumbs Up

I'll check the the switch and selenoid with my volt meter.  I had my daughter under the steering column and she couldn't find the ignition switch.  So I got my fat butt in there and I couldn't find it.  I tried to match up the new part with anything that looked like it and it was a resounding "what the @#%*" .  There doesn't even seem to be anything that remotely looks like the plugs that should go into the new switch.

Here's a link of the new part( I tried uploading and was getting an error msg):

I know it's a small area to search, is it behind something?  Which side of the steering column is it located.
thanks, dave

Thanks Bob, I'll get my dauhter under there and have a go at it.  With my back I know I can't get down there again.  Thank goodness she likes working on the Vette as much as her dad.

On the same topic...

My car has no auxiliary power when the key is taken to "accessory."  Everything else works as it should.  I'd imagine it's probably the switch as well?

NO power in the "ACC" position could simply be an adjustment on the switch. Loosen the two small screws, and move the switch up/down, and see if that helps.

HERE'S another view of the switch....

Great tip!  Hopefully the adjustment will do the trick.  It would be nice to have ONE original part that actually works!!
