Greetings everyone,

I was lost for awhile but thanks to Adam, found my way back to c3vr!

The ol' girl has been sitting for a time and we all know what happens,  wet spots on the garage floor, or in my case one huge wet spot.   My mechanic passed away a few years back so I took the vette to a Chevy dealer specializing in vettes and performance modifications.  They indicated that there was so much fluid that it would be impossible for one leak to cause it.  Not only did they find multiple oil leaks but the tranny and power steering were flowing fluids.

They gave me a price of $1700 to replace gaskets and seals but couldn't guarantee all the leaks would be fixed.  The engine is original (35 years old) L-48 350.  So,  I'm thinking new engine.

How many of you have purchased a crate engine from Summit or Jegs?  Will it  drop right in without modifications?   Can someone recomend other companies or point me in some direction.

cheers
john

Ipurchased a crate from JEG's for my 72 and all componets bolted right up, looks like the original motor in the car, only the corvette savy person would know difference. I enjoy the higher HP and with the 700R4 it is not bad to drive.

Specifically what engine do you have?  I am somewhat concerned about air cleaner clearance.  There is a Weiand Action Plus intake currently bolted in and the reason I went with that model was because of it's low height.  No problem banging the hood.

As far as the steering goes,  I'd like to replace it all with steeroids.

Wow,  there goes my next 5 vacations...Cry
