OK put the rebuilt Q-jet back on and went for a spin, still have the hesitation and the chirp. Since I have run some of engine additive maybe cat is plugged would that cause hesitation?

I'm pretty sure all the hoses are good as I was able to check that all real good with the carb off.

And still not sure about the egr valve? Plus I guess even though it does not sound it wonder if I do have a bad spark plug. I know last fall when I did change the plugs one was loaded with the white yellow deposits......

Carb looks great thoughBig smile the guy rebuilding it said he never saw one with the anodize still looking like new, light brushing with laquer thinner cleaned it right up.

Car is drivable but anoying.....Confused

I know it can only be a few things, I had a bad dream last night I was driving along and the car just died......Confused whats up with that.
Might be tied into what happened at home friday, my 13 yr old son (sorry off topic, refer to first sentice) was running my 3 yr old troy built power washer with a 5 hp Honda engine. All of a sudden it started blowing blue smoke and shut offAngry
Once cooled down I tryed to pull it over, it will pull over and do not hear any clanking but it will not fire and it smell of gear oil?
I'll mess with the car some more if I get a chance, I may have to get under it and pull the plugs, I hate the thought of dealing with those heat shieldsOuch

Well barb will be here in a few days she can fix anything.....Big smile

Paul sorry...duly noted dang Rook made me say it.Big smile
All vacume lines looked great no brittleness or swelling or cracking, the engine bay did not see daylight for years. The chirping noise is what puzzles me it is matched to the RPM speeds up untill shift then speeds up untill shift.
I'm thinking of replacing the egr valve they run between 30 and 120 bucks depending where you buy.

if i may add my 2 cents here...ebo it may very well be a clogged exhaust. on my 90 it got clogged and when it idled it sounded great but when you were driving you could feel it working harder and there was a visible drop in power. replaced exhaust and car ran great. they do make a pressure guage that measures the amount of pressure coming out but never saw or used one. if the exhaust system needs changing you may be able to fix your problem easily.

Can you hear it at idle? I had a chirping noise once and it turned out to be a dry water pump bearing...bearing full;y wiped shortly thereafter, but this wouldn't contribute t a stumble...

Can not hear it at idle, days before resistor wires you could hear the RPM thru your radio. Well going down the road it's just like that but it's a chirping sound and it matches the RPM.
Exhaust seems good no rust, not loud, I lose the stumble if I accelerate.

The value of off-topic:  In the 70's I wanted a troy-built tiller so bad!  That's all they made.  Couldn't afford even that toy.  But I saw your post today and searched on Troy built....  whole new world of goodies to look at so Thanks Ebo!
