Body part/hood surround is SMC(sheet molded compound)fiberglass. The actual headlight door/tops are an aluminuminum alloy, I believe.

You'll want to use 3M Fusor plastic structure adhesive slow set 127ez to rebond the headlight support bar to the body. This is for bonding fiberglass and SMC to metal.
Make sure the reinforcement bar isn't rusted out. There are replacement reinforcement bars out there if you need a new one.

cheers sarge,o it's not rust out.just let go,no rivets to be seen.
I lifted it enough to get a few coarse stiff discs between them . cleaned up fine.
I think get adhersive in then stiff wood battens and plenty of clamps, and should do it.

Joanne - here's a couple of shots from the last time I did the deed. Two different cars in three years. Counting yours I know of six cars that need it done. It's a major PITA to get the reinforcement bar out to completely clean both surfaces, but it's even a bigger pain if it pops back loose again.

Getting the HL assemblies out with the radiator and condenser still installed is a bit tight, but can be done.

Turned out great both times, good alignment with hood and HL doors had proper clearance to open.

Here's the stuff from 3M that I used. I'm not familiar with the stuff Sarge recommended, but I'm sure its similar. Overnight clamp recommended, I left it clamped for three days. Easy to use, just make sure both surfaces are clean.

Here's the gun required to apply the two-part cartridge and a sample shot of what the bonded material look like. A bit pricey but worth it. Both are available though Autozone, O'Reilly's and Napa. Cartridge was $48 to 50, gun was $75 to 80 but available to borrow if you go this route.

Good luck and keep us posted !!

Unless I missed it, I don't see where it states DP190 can be used on SMC or fiberglass in the specifications.

The other 3M product you can use is Fusor 147 medium set. I believe the working time with this product is less.

That structural piece was originally riveted in in the earlier C3's, hence no flexing.

Then they started bonding that piece with adhesive instead of riveting it in on the later C3's, so I'm not so sure I'd want that piece flexing around. Just my opinion. Wink
