I recently bought a 82 crossfire and it was lacking in power to say the least. Took it to Denver engines and talked to them. Advised i wanted some get up and go without changing engines and keeping the crossfire. They ported the intake, added high pressure fuel pump, cold air induction, new cat and exhaust. Few other minor things. WOW what a difference. Any questions email me kentwlf1@yahoo. Added about 100 HP and sounds great.

Hi Kent,
That sound great.  I guess the biggest gain would have been from the headers.  I assume it was not a normal exhaust?  Did they keep the AIR?
Mine is quick to get going but not that quick after 40 mph.

Mostly we just drive around and look good.... Welcome to the group...

What did all that run you? Have you actually had the hp measured?

That's a big jump in HP for a Crossfire...I'd have to question the methods used to determine it. While certainly porting the intake will help quite a bit, more than a 10hp increase on a Xfire would take way more than what was done, imho.
Perhaps the "before" numbers were taken with a stopped up cat converter....idknow....
It's good that you got it running better, anyway!

That is a ton of power to gain from a simple port job and cat change..before and after dyno slips would work for me..or a shot of nitrous!

I'd have to agree. If the car was running per factory specs before and not neglected, Id estimTe the work done to be worth 35-40 ponies!!

But I'm sure it feels like 200 compared to where you started!!

Have fun!!

I'd have to agree with Joel. You state that the engine is an L82? The 82 actually came with the L83. Did you change the chip in the ECM?Cool

Don't see where it was stated it was an L82 engine...just an '82 year car.
Getting anything more out of a Crossfire with the Crossfire intake is really tough...the intake is just a bad design...it cuts off half of the intake port of the head. Porting will certainly help, as I said, but....there's only so far you can go with that. The only way anyone has ever made any real HP with the Crossfire is to install a different intake system. The engine itself is ok for pumping up the power....it is the intake that creates the problem.
Hey...ANY improvement on one is a good thing, no matter how much it is!

Sounds like a good start on your '82.  I say "start" because once you begin this type of work, there will always be something else you will want to do.  Good luck.

Last year I did some significant changes to my L-48.  (See Vette Description.)  I still have a few things I want to do - like change the oil and fuel pumps.  What kind of fuel pump did you install?

Maybe 20 HP, but what the heck, if it makes you happy thats great. Besides i happen to think that the 81 and 82s are the coolest looking.
