Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me if a stock type balancer for a 327 ci base engine is different than a 350ci base engine.  I bought a new balancer and the timing at TDC is off 5 degrees.  The supply house says it should be right for my car but as far as I can tell its not.

You could use it and adjust your timing readings to compensate for the builtin 5 degrees on the balancer. For example, if your engine calls for timing at 4 degrees BTDC, I would time it to 9 BTDC to getthe 4 degrees on the motor...

They should be the same between a 327 and 350. Are you sure the outter ring on your old balancer has not slipped with age? Yhis had been the case with a couple of my older engines - just a thought.

I checked top dead center while the engine was pulled out of the car.  The old balancer was dead on but I'm replacing it because its leaking and the rubber looks worn out.

I guess the new balancer was incorrectly indexed? Confused or when I was checking the old one I was doing something wrong.

Are the two balancers the same diameter? (silly question, I know, but...)
Are they the same thickness, and same basic configuration?
If they are the same, dimensionally, the newer balancer may be improperly assembled, or it may be designed for an engine with the timing pointer in a different location.

Different years of small blocks had the timing pointers in different locations, so you probably just got a balancer that was not compatible with your pointer.
