I agree completely.  And the first thing I though of when you said repair kit was the hub sleeve Joel described.  Aftermarket balancers become more important the higher you rev the engine past 6,000 RPM.

All I have to say Mark is get it done now. If that pup let's go it could get real ugly!! When I did mine it was just barely holding together. I'm sure you don't want to have to buy a hood, etc. "T" my7T12010-03-16 19:22:12

Clap   O.K.  Gents, LOTS of good info here. MUCH appreciate the input.  The sleeve makes sense, I can see the benefit to it. I will getting a new balancer and bolt and save the headaches later. THANKS to ya all.   Mark

Well, Marks question was just in time!!  I am seeing the same think on my 81.  Guess that I'll get a new one before the meet in Holland.  I have been wondering just how long I could go before I had to replace the balencer.

A replacement oem balancer is definitely a small price to pay for piece of mind. I recall seeing OEM replacements on fleabay for $50-$60.

I replaced mine last spring. For the cost, it is well worth the piece of mind.

Thumbs UpWhen I finally got mine up from the swamps of Florida, I had mine replaced and ordered from Eckler's of course I was a rookie to Corvettes so I thought Eckler's was it. I guess there are a zillion corvette parts places. Purchased it for  $69.99 and it's working fine ever since. So good luck with your's Mark from Mark BB78  ( Still a Rookie and will remain one!)

Good Morning Mr. Manchestershark,
Just a matter of curiosity what size balancer do you have? 6.75 or 8 inch and have you taken the pulley off and pulled it balancer?? On the face of the balancer is a number like 7742,record the number and see if you can get that part # replaced.. You can get a harmonic balancer from Pioneer or Dorman at reasonable price.Professional Products have the upgraded type, albeit a bunch of money.
       Good luck...  Sal C
