Hello all, I installed a MSD 6AL ignition a while back and I am using a MSD Distributor. With this configuration I have a left over White wire that can be used to disable the Ignition using a toggle switch to ground. I want to do this but I can't figure out where best to hide the toggle switch where it is still easy to access.

I thought about wiring it into the Alarm key cylinder on the fender. Has anyone ever seen that done or have a great reason why it should not be done. I don't and probably won't ever use the factory alarm and have never tried mine. I was figuring that I could ground one side of the Key cylinder harness and tie the white wire into the other side. You would exit the car, slide the key in and disable the entire ignition. This all assumes I am disconnecting the factory alarm wiring harness from the key cylinder, but Id leave everything intact.

Looking for others opinions.

How about just up under the driver's side gill opening.  Then you just stick your finger in the gill and flip a small toogle switch.  Or you could put it under the dash.

Well, That's how I came up with the idea of using the Alarm key cylinder. I was looking around the outside of the car, but I didn't want to locate a toggle switch outside the car as it would likely corrode. Inside under the dash is the obvious place, but it would be the first place I would look if I were a thief. Thought about behind the pass seat in the luggage compartment up around the rear molding around the rear glass, hidden of course, Then you just blindly reach back and flip the toggle switch.

With an old school ignition switch and a manual transmission an Ignition lockout would be ideal especially since it is already there and only needs a simple wiring job to get it working.  Just got to figure out where to put it.

In the late 70s, I installed my kill switch under the instrument panel near the windshield wiper override controls.   It's great.  It's reachable but not obvious.  Plus, since the car sits for long periods of time the carb dries out.  When I want to start it, I crank it for about five seconds with the switch off to refill the float bowl. Then I flip the switch and the car fires up on one second.  Been working great for almost 40 years.

When I had my 67, 1979, I wired a grounding switch under the dash where I could reach up high enough to feel it by hand. On my 72 I wired one in near the driver door lamp. These only made me feel better, a real thief would get the grounding wire off in no time.

I ended up getting the Stock Alarm to work and then I wired the Ignition to that circuit using a relay that simply gets a 12 volt signal when the Alarm is activated which in turn grounds the ignition. This seems to work well. I have tried it with the alarm activated and inactivated and it works in both situations with a no start until you deactivate the alarm using the key cylinder on the fender.

But I need a new alarm horn, this one sounds a little sickly, but works. Might source a newer late model car alarm horn and go with that.
