Hey Guys!

Wanted to share my little weekend project!

Replaced hood heat shield, painted heat shield clips, sanded/repainted air filter cover and ring.  I'm going to leave the filter housing black.  Sanded with 80 grit / 120 grit / 320 grit.  They were perfectly smooth when I was finished!

Thoughts?

Sweet! Thumbs Up  Clap
Ya need the rubber seal for the adapter ring so the air cleaner will seal against the hood. Tongue

Looks good !!

+1 on Joel's comment that you need to get the rubber gasket that goes between the outer ring of the air cleaner and the bottom of the hood. they're a bit pricey, but your new paint job won't rub off on the underside of the hood. You can also repaint the black under the hood and it will look better longer. Once the new gasket is in place you can do some testing to see if your cowl induction is working properly, but that a whole nother story, never boring when you own a C3 !!

Did you get your leak fixed ??

Thank you very much guys!  I am proud of the result!

i just received the rubber ring on Tuesday.  Haven't mounted it yet, just placed it.  Definitely takes away from the aesthetics :(  From what Vman73 is saying, it seems the rubber ring is necessary?

As far as the leak - I'm going to look hard into power steering components this weekend.  If I cannot find anything amiss, I will being the vette to my machine shop to inspect fuel pump...it's a little above my experience level.

It serves a purpose. At the rear edge of the hood is a vent frill...behind that is an electrically operated door the is closed until about 1/2-3/4 throttle. With the door open, it allows cool outside air into the air cleaner assembly. The rubber seal seals the air cleaner to the bottom of the hood. Without the seal all you'll ever get into the engine is hot, underhood air. WITH the seal, once the door opens, you'll get nice cool air into the engine...which helps it run better. It doesn't really do any good for fuel mileage, since you have to mash the throttle down for the door to work, but...it does work well otherwise.  This system was only used from '73 to '75, but the '67-'69 L88/ZL1 cars had a similar set-up, without the electrical door, except the air cleaner assy on those was completely seals....there were no snorkels on those as the '73-'75 cars have. Thumbs Up

Got the rubber installed today.  Fit very nicely around the painted air filter ring.  No glue needed.

It seems to fit very snugly against hood.  You can feel it making contact when closing the hood, and the hood "pops" harder when opening...hope that makes sense.

Downside...air filter housing does not look nearly as good :(

Thanks guys!

Jason
