My intake manifold gasket leaks at the rear. My engine has JEGS aluminum heads and an Edelbrock Air Gap manifold.

If you're referring to the seal that goes across the top rear(and front) of the block, leave it out, and use a high temp silicon. The rubber gaskets that are in the gaskets sets hardly ever seal properly....in fact, they usually wind up being skwished out(hi-tech term).
Clean the block, and intake very well, and run a bead of silicon across there, front and rear, being sure to get it in the corners where the head meets the block. That'll stop the leak.

any particular brand that you have used that works well?

For my two cents I would use the ultra grey..especially on aluminum..everything I work on has that on it and you need a serious amount of prying to get it apart again.. This stuff doesn't leak and cures fast..I think permatex (sp) sells it..but most dealers carry their own version..use around a 1/4" of it on the front and back and do what Joel said don't use the factory swisher gasket..they stink..depending on the intake gasket set you get I also put a little around the water jacket holes also..some sets have a ring there so you wouldn't need any.

I use the black stuff that comes in a caulking gun tube...we get it from Lowes, or Home Depot, as far as I know. You won't need that much, of course.
The Permatex (Ultra-Seal?)brand is prolly the best, imo.

I forgot..is there a special gasket you use for the aluminum heads and intake? I would check with whom you got the heads from and find out..the ultra grey is made for aluminum ..love it..

I'm having that same problem, just an irritating little leak which appears to be coming from the very back of the intake. I've had the intake gasket changed (fel-pro 1404 gasket) and we used the prematex unta-seal  on the front and back. I've had this done twice and still I have a leak. I'm sure we used the correct intake gaskets for the aluminum heads and intake because I have the build sheet from American Speed.

Is it possible that it could be the oil sending unit, although it doesn't appear to be?

It's really easy to scrape some of the silicon off back there when installing the intake back on, so ya gotta be real careful. I had to do the intake on my truck twice...
Also, be sure there is a gasket on the bottom of the distributor...lot of folks neglect to put that one on, and they will leak for sure.
