First off, this is my first time building an engine….and I still have a lot to learn.  I posted a little bit ago with some issues with the ignition, but at this point I have that resolved.  I installed Comp Cam’s Thumper – actually the entire kit (rockers and chain).  Vortek heads that I had machined to allot for the lift on the cam and the hooker super comps side mounts with side exhaust – first gear just wants to spin the tires, second gear breaks them loose and will stay there if I lay into it, she can chip third and fourth  but I am driving hard at that point.

Anyway – my issue is timing, I am having a hard time getting my timing dialed in.  Does anyone know what the initial timing should be for this cam?  I have it set to 8 degrees BTDC with the vacuum disconnected.  Probably 16 with the vacuum – but to be honest I don’t recall.

I broke my tach cable while advancing the distributer, so I need to fix that this weekend.  I ended up turning it too far and put too much of a bend in the line – oh well, live and learn.  Any advice on how to time this car would be appreciated – I have never done this before, just been reading online and figuring it out. Thanks !
