I have a 1977 L82 and was wondering if anyone had a plug recommendation beyond the AC R45TS?  As everyone knows it is such a joy to remove #'s 7 & 8, I am looking for something that can stand up to a little oil consumption without fouling so quick!
Thanks and keep the WAVE!Clap
Ralph

You can go to a "hotter" plug(R46?), and that may last a little longer before fouling, depending on how fast the 45s are fouling now...if you're having to change/clean the plugs every weekend, it ain't gonna make much difference.
Is the engine smoking that bad? You may only need to replace the valve seals, or even the PCV valve...

Actually it doesn't really smoke at all (Puffs slightly on a cold start).  It's just that numbers 7 & 8 show more oil whenever changed and I thought there might be an upgrade spark plug that really works.  I have read where some of these "high-tech" plugs actually make the old C-3's run much worse and at $8-10 eachor more, I really hate experimenting.
Thanks for the response!
Ralph

That slight puff on starting is a classic sign of bad valve seals...a very common thing on small block Chevys.  Don't waste your money on high tech spark plugs...anything beyond oe spec won't gain you anything.  Buy whatever brand plug you like most in the proper application, but all you'll do with the exotic plugs is lighten your wallet and maybe get a little decal to show everyone what brand you're running.

Get AC or Champion and they will do all you need, though I do know many, many swear by NGK plugs.  The ignition system is no better than its weakest part and exotic spark plugs don't improve on that.

Thanks for the insights.  The valve seals are original and having just turned 54,000 miles, I know age and wear are finally catching up.  I am hoping that the funds will be available for a rebuild soon and it will take care of all of the seals and bearings.  Looks like it is everyone's consensus that my use of AC R45TS is as good as it gets.
Thanks to all!  Keep the wave going! Clap

Hey Ralph,
A few years ago I had my valve guide seals redone. While we were at it we tightened down the rocker arms to spec.
It sure isn't a rebuild, but for the money I was really happy with the outcome!

P.S. I stuck with the AC's and haven't had to change them since.
