hey has any one out there ever had problems with there speedo bouncing or jumping at low speeds say under 10 mph with the speedo bouncing from 0 to 35 but once the speed picks up the problem seems to go away i thought i had found the problem before i removed the cable from the transducer to the trans by just removing the the center cable from the jacket and found that the cable end that goes in the trans there is a small square piec of metal welded or soidered to the cable well that was kinda just barley hangin on to the cable so i went to a speedo shop and they repaired the end for me and i lubed it with white lithiam grease before reinstalling it and it still does the same and i have replace the transducer because the cruise control did not work and was hoping that was the problem because now the cruise works like it is suppost to with resume and accel functions working and i had a new face plate installed on the speedo in the dash and they told me that they checked out the head mechinsam and that worked fine the only piece of the puzzle that we have not checked it the small cable from the transducer to the head unit any yhought or ideas would be great

Hello,

My 82 did just as you described but, it was the cable to the transmission from
the cruise control. The guy that replaced it said it had a kink in the end of the
cable that would catch as slow speed and work smoothly after about 20 mph.
New cable fixed the problem.

Good luck.

Keith

I'd been leaning toward the short cable from the transducer to the speedo head, too. If it was anything on the lower end(speedo gears, lower cable, etc), the cruize wouldn't work well. Pull the short cable out and clean/lube it up, and see how that works....

I had the same problem Keith did. The lower cable on mine, though was pinched where someone had run over something. Put a new lower cable and problem went bye-bye!

9 out of 10 times it will be the lower cable.
The problem is it gets all the road crap. The upper one is more protected.
The best thing to do is remove it once a year, clean it, lube it and put it back carefully, to be sure it is properly installed in the transmission.
I have replaced mine 2 or 3 times since 2004.
Of course the ones you get now are not high quality, so that is another reason they don't last for many miles.
