I'm going to look at an 82 Collectors Edition.  No numbers matching car here.  It has a 330 hp crate engine, 700R4 crate transmission, stainless brake calipers.  It also has a salvage title, but no frame damage.  The AC needs work and it will need to have some finish body work and paint on the front rt quarter.  It had a two week old paint job when it rear-ended a pick-up truck.  From the pictures I've seen it looks pretty good other than the primered front quarter.  I could get it for about $7200.  What do you think?  I'm just looking for a driver that looks good.

Thanks,

Ken

I'd offer $5000 and see what happens. That's a lot of wrong/bad/damage stuff for a CE to be worth a "normal" asking price. Normal market value for a nice CE is around $12- $18,000.  Plus, with a salvage title, you never really know what the heck is gonna show it's ugly head after you pay for the car, and get it home. I'd be real careful with this one...look it over really well before exchanging any $$$

Well, I haven't made an offer.  I know he won't sell it for anywhere near $5K, as he could dismantle it and make that much or more.  Some more info on it:  the engine and transmission have 4,000 miles on them,  the rest of the car 88,000.  New Bilsteins, new springs, new Goodyear Eagles, new stainless brake calipers.  I'm still thinking, but I likely won't make a move until I clear up some other things that are going to cost me some bucks.  If there's enough left, I may make an offer then, if it's still available.

Also, he has pictures and documentation of the damage and repairs, along with a CarFax report that says the car spent most of its time outside the rust belt.  He seems pretty open and honest about what he's got.  He's an eBay Power Seller with a 99.6% positive rating.

The 330 HP crate motor may carburated. See if that is so.
If you can live without matching numbers and such, 330 HP and a 700-R4 sounds like a nice combination for a "driver."
Try to have someone who knows C3 bodywork put thier hands on the car to see as many issues as can be found.

I like the look of the '82 Collector"s Edition. That, 330 Hp and an OD Trans. could make for a nice "driver."

Let us know how this goes.
