Neato!
Rumor has it that this car was actually sold last year for around $275,000....maybe this guy has his dates wrong or sumptin. It's a nice piece of history, in several areas. It'll prolly wind up at Terry's place in Ohio(Pro-Team). Angry

MY dates are wrong...the story I read actually said the car was up for auction 10 years ago...not last year...my bad. Don't know if the story is true or not...thass why I prefaced it with "Rumor has it".

Just think - for about $600K+, you could have a nice NCRS quality 390hp midyear. What a deal! Should be fun to see if it ever sells on ebay.

Bid large and bid often! Cool

For a number of years all of the astronauts got corvettes. This is a link to the story of the really smart move as he sold them a year later for more than they were worth because of who had owned them.

I want to know where one of the black and gold one is.

Jim Rathman was a Chevy dealer in Florida.  He was (the?) one who got the tradition started of getting Corvettes to the astronauts.

He was later the Pace Car driver for the 1978 Indy 500 where the Corvette made its debut as Pace Car

BTW, years ago, I saw the former ('72?) Corvette of astronaut Jim Lovell (the Commander of Apollo 13 -  "Houston, we may have a problem") at the Indy Mecum auction.  It was a little rough, but I beleive they were looking for 30-40K.  Can't remember if it sold or not

Adam would your buddy be Danny Reed?

The video is of Danny driving his car and talking about it. It also shows a couple of C1 in his garage. How many does he have anyway?

He indicates that he drives it to work at least once in awhile. He said it should do 160 but he has never tried to do that.  Would he tell you how fast he has had it going.  It sounds really nice deep exhaust rumble.

Yep...Danny is a fellow NCRS member. The car is in great condition...all he has done since buying it is to clean it really well. He has all of the history on it, of course. The car sounds just like you would expect a big block to sound...healthy!
The paint isn't all the nice anymore, but it is as applied back then, and it's still presentable. Interior is super nice.
We first met Danny at the NCRS National Convention in Galveston in 2001. We talked to him for quite a while about the car one evening when we were both doing some last minute detailing. He told us the history, and what all of the different paint colors on the fender "Stripes" meant. Kewl stuff. I took a lot of pics that night...wish I could find them somewhere...I'll keep diggin.

btw...I doubt that he has ever pushed it really hard...the history is just too important to risk damaging it...but he do have a little fun every now and then. Next time I see him, I'll ax, tho. Thumbs Up

I had the honor of being one of the escorts (for NASA Safety) with John Glenn and his wife, Annie..along with Dick Gordon (Apollo 12) while here at KSC on the 27th of Jan, 2012. I got Glenn and Gordon to sign my '06 Vette on the fuel rail covers. Got my own picture of a couple of heros (even if Gordon is not sitting on my Vette in this picture)!!Dick Gordon in the middle

I personally know the guy who has the car right now...I was at his house 2 days after its' arrivel here on Merritt Island, Florida. We both belong to the Cape Kennedy Corvette Club. The guy owned the car before now lived in Georgia, and had the '67 since Glenn turned it back in on the 28th of December, 1967. The guy I know now personally knew the previous owner since, as kept asking to buy the car since 1979. The car has NEVER been resold until now. No more rumors!

So you are saying that ebay car is not as advertized?  That is a story in it's self.   Can you get some pictures of the 67 being that you two are in the same club?  Would like to see them.

The car is as advertised on EBay. It is a rough car at the moment...but that is expected after 30 years + left alone. Yhe owner plans to bring it back to survivor status for grading next January at Kissimmee's NCRS show near Orlando. He has taken the suggestion of numerous car experts that restoration should take it to the point of survivor and not a full blown frame off restoration...it would compromise the purity of the car and what/who it represents.

Long overdue, but here is a web site that talks about the car with a couple of videos featuring the car in a preserved restoration, a video interview with the owner, and a video that features an interview with me.

To this day, we both still belong to the same Corvette club and have displayed the '67 with my '06 together numerous times (because my '06 has Armstrong's autograph on one of the fuel rail covers).

Neil Armstrong was also a member of our club back in the day...

Some of us are casually looking for this 1968 Silver BB convertible when Neil turned in the blue 67 for another years' lease on this '68.
