I just purchased my first Corvette, a 1971 Steel cities grey 4 spd coupe with a gm crate motor 10067353.  I want to put a new exhaust system on headers on back.  Any information  would be greatly appriciated including brand of header, size and material of components etc..  Thank You for your time.

I have a 74 with a 350 that i put headman headers on. Bought the thermal coating and I am very happy with them. The drivers side went on from up top while I slid the passenger side on from underneath. I have already purchased a set of hedman headers for my 72 that I am redoing but this time I bought the ceramic headers. Didnt put them on yet but look like the exact same bends.

I would go with 2 1/2" aluminized pipe. Mufflers depend on the type of sound you want. I have been running Hedman ceramic coated headers for a while now and very happy with them.

Welcome aboard!!

All you guys with Heddman Headers, did you have good clearance on the spark plugs?

I bought a set and tried them but had interference with the plugs. Maybe the issue was that I have angled plugs in my JEGS aluminum heads.

When I called Heddman, they said I had to dent then headers; I did not like that idea so sent them back but now that winter is here, I'm thinking of getting headers next spring.

My engine has straight plugs. The headers give room to work with them, however, I can not change these plugs or even hook the timing light up to #1 once the engine has been started because of  getting burnt. Now in saying that I need to point out that I still have my wires running down around the motor mounts and not on the top with nice hold downs. Having them on the lower side definitely makes it harder to get to however that was a choice I made. On my stroker engine I am doing for my 72 I am also planning on going down around the mounts as well. I just think that is a clean setup. With that said I will also point out that I put covers on the plug wire ends to keep the heat off the plug wire ends. Just to be safe!
What I really liked about the Headman Headers was how easy they went on. I am hoping that my 72 goes on as well as the 74 did. Also the Hedman headers have a ball and socket type collector which I think has less leak problems later!  I am sure that there are other headers out there that probably fit as well or maybe even better. The headmans are the only ones I have experience with.

Nice Color Choice! I'm planning on new pipes as well. From the stock exhaust manifolds to the rear. My research with these engines is to go to a 2 1/4" aluminized pipe. The 2 1/2" is good for top end  and exhaust rumble. I want a good sound while idling and cruising. Don't want to shout to the passenger as well. The Headman Headers you picked out will go nicely. A friend of mine installed them and is very happy with them. Just make sure you get those new exhaust header locking bolts with clips. http://www.jegs.com/i/Stage%208/868/8911/10002/-1?CT=999
