I have posted about my poor gas mileage (about 10mpg where 82's normally get 15 to 18mpg).  The car seems to be running rich (you can smell it).

I got a chance to purchase a computer locally with prom for $100 it was checked good prior to me getting it. Any way just got in installed.  Car started up great but check engine light was on.

Tried to read the code could not even get the 12 code to flash.

Got any suggestions on what could cause either not getting a Code or the check engine light.

It go dark before I could put everything back the way it was which is a next Saturday project. But I would like to start collecting some guidance if anyone has any for an 82 crossfire.  Besides get a carburetor Angry .

Just thought I should say that before someone else does.  (LOL)

Let me think a ZZ4 is about $6,000 plus extras.  It is a California Car so it could get a little bit dicey. Confused  But thanks for not saying just get a carburetor.  Evil Smile

If I get one, you going to come on down and help me put it in ebo? Thumbs Up   We would need to wait until it warms up a little it is about 68 degree now way to cold to work outside.  Cool

Are we having fun yet? Beer

What did the ECM come out of to start with?
How was it "checked" to be sure it was otay?
Are you jumpering the ALDL connector, or using a scanner?

I'm not sure of all that you are talking about.  I guy owed me a $100 bucks and had a 82 computer and Chip that a local Corvette shop said checked good.  I figured it was a good way to get my $100 bucks.  I will be swapping the old computer and chip back into the car today.  I will let you know if the problem goes away.

As far as scanning goes I have an OBE 1  scanner that I could not get to work.  So I manually jumpered A&B pins and still could not get a code.  It was getting dark so I stopped will get at it again in a couple of hours.

Yeah....that wuz gunna be my next suggestion...put the old one back in and see what happens. Used ECMs are risky, at best....even if they did come out of working vehicles. Touching the connector pins with your fingers, or zapping it when you connect the battery....lots of ways to make a "good" one take a doo-doo without knowing it.Unhappy
Did it supposedly come out of another Corvette, or do you know?

It suppose to have come out of a know good 82 corvette.  I'm used to working with chips and precaution necessary to prevent damage.  I have found if you take those it is really hard to actually damage a chip.

Any way it turned out to be the chip.  I swap computers check engine light came on.  Took my chip put it in the new computer Check engine light off.  Put my computer back in with new chip Check engine light on.  Put old chip back in check engine light off.  Back to square one everything old back in check engine light is off.

4 hours of work nothing gained except that I would say I have a working computer to confirm that I would need better electronic test equipment than I have access to now that I'm retired.  Could have done a lot more 20 years ago.

Lost the talent through not using it and  access to the test equipment because of retirement.

Can these be reprogrammed by the way?

There aren't a ton of places doing OBD I programing out there compared to OBD II. It seems you can find a OBD II tuner shop around every corner.
Check this place out. Maybe they can help you. They do chip "burning" reprogramming on a lot of different OBD I.
