I have a 1980 vette. and the engine was replaced with a 350 chev.

there is no other Emissions systems on the car. and I just installed a Edelbrock intake and carb. So i now have hoses from that charcol canister and dont know what to do with them. I removed the q-jet and stock intake with the egr blocked with a plate.

Help??

If my memory is still semi-intact, you should have two hoses from the canister to the carb. One is simply to "catch" the fuel vapors from the vent of the carb when the engine is turned off, and the other is so the carb can scavenge(suck) the vapors back out of the canister once the engine is started.
There will also be another hose/line from the canister back to the fuel tank...that one you do need to keep connected, the two going to/from the carb can be removed.

The line going back to the fuel tank could be removed from the canister, and the canister completely removed from the car, but you'll need some sort of "filter" on the end of the line from the tank...you can't just leave it open, and you can't really just plug it. You could insert a small, in-line fuel filter in it, and be ok, as long as the vapor separator on the tank is functional. If the separator is bad, or otherwise doesn't work, it could allow fuel to siphon out of the tank when full...not really a good thing with fuel prices the way they are!

Sounds like you have a massive vacuum leak there!
I would suggest, at this point, to plug the three lines on the carb/PCV tee, and see if that solves the high idle/headlight issue. If it doesn't, you'll need to look for any other vac. lines that are disconnected, and creating a vacuum leak.
Also, for the headlights, make sure the vac. line from the rear of the intake is still connected. There should be one with a small, white-ish plastic pie-pan looking filter, and a small round metal pie-pan looking check-valve, with one fitting on the intake side, and two fittings w/hoses, one going to the inside of the car, and the other to the vac. reservoir, under the driver side fenderwell (I think). This is what operates the headlights.

If your engine is idling at 12,000 RPM, you have a major problem.

I'm sure you meant 1000 - 1200 rpm.

Well...I'm assuming you're talking about the EGR system, but I may be wrong. The EGR system doesn't really use any vac. reserve...it would run directly from manifold vac.
Anyway...I believe the headlight system on your car does use a "coffee can" looking reservoir, mounted under the side of the driver side fender? It may be on the pass side...I ain't too sure on the later Sharks, but it would look like a coffee can with a vac. hose going into it. This reservoir is used for the HVAC systems, too.
These type cans do have a problem with rusting, and cracking, as they are quite thin.

As far as your stock(stock being the operative word here) fuel pump putting out too much pressure...that' really hard to believe. I suppose it could happen, tho. Stock pumps normally run around 6-9 pounds of pressure...not really enough to un-seat a float on any carb, unless there is a problem with the float to begin with. If your stock, mechanical pump is running a higher fuel pressure, there may well be a stuck flapper valve in it.
At least you did get it to idle, so that's a start, eh?

Thanks Joel for the Vacuum Guide!!!

Look like someone removed the Vacuum Can! I just bought a Vacuum pump and I am off to go find that leek.

I looked through me AIM. and see that the EGC system is to other Vacuum like the Trans lockup switch. I think I am going to move that directly to the Vacuum off the Intake. Right after the filter of course.

So Now I still need to Find a safe way to remove this EGS Can.

Y'elcome, Joe!

Sorry for the bad results on the tests, but if it make ya feel any better, ALL Sharks will have to replace that stuff. It ain't a matter of "IF"...it's a matter of "WHEN"...
