I recentley removed the cannister from my 77 and removed the charcoal. It had a mild gasoline odor and none of the charcoal was clogged.I discarded the charcoal and replaced it with some I bought in an aquarium shop(used for fish tank filters). Can someone tell me if I did the right thing?

Sounds OK to me, as long as you got the same amount of charcoal back in the canister, and the foam filter back on the bottom.

Don't know if that type of charcoal is any different than what is normally used, or if there is an "automotive specific" type of charcoal...
