Been dealing with CC for the past two weeks, trying to purchase a full exhaust system for my 71 LS5 auto. 3 times now I've talked and still can't order what I want.

Everything I want is deemed "special order." Mind you, the only change I want is to "swap" the exhaust heat riser valve to a blank kit.

So you wait 3 days to get a response; meanwhile your car sits on jackstands.

First order wanted the Magnaflow muffler upgrade. Magnaflows are backordered. Okay, I get that. But why would anyone wait 3 more weeks and hold an order... even before it can be shipped?

So, I figured I'll reluctantly change my kit to a DLX with reg muffs. Sure, it's in stock, but the same change (heat riser valve) that was just approved, has to be "special ordered." Wait again.

Fine, just tack on the extra $29 for a new blank riser valve so at least the order gets moving.

By this time, the free shipping for Father's Day is gone?

I'm so disappointed.

Why do they make it so darn hard?

Their special order rep sounds like they are overloaded and/or in need of help.

You'd think something as small as that wouldn't stand in the way of $ coming in.

All this has me questioning my potential purchase. Anyone have CC reviews?

It can't be this hard to get what you want in a reasonable amount of time, can it?

I know your frustration. It seems none of these parts suppliers are keeping anything in stock. I have a drivers mirror on back order now for 6 weeks and last week when I called to check on it they siad it would be another 4 - 6 weeks. I would go somewhere else but no one else has it either. Im not sure who else may have exhaust but I think I would start to look. Best of luck,
Rodney

I ordered my Magnaflow system from CC and had pretty good luck with them, but that was years ago and I didn't have to do any special orders.  I still use CC sometimes, but I always wait till they have one of those free shipping deals and I know that there was one time in the last year when I had to make a call to customer service because the shipping wasn't successfully removed on my internet order, but they did give it to me eventually.  I'd call their cust service back and if they don't give you the shipping I'd ramp it up a level or two - especially in light of the back order issues.  Good luck.

So are you sticking with the stock style mufflers?  I like my Magnaflows, the quality is top notch, but I've always been a little disappointed with the sound.  Just a little TOO mellow and quiet for my taste.  Maybe the sound of the stock style will actually be better....

Very surprised they didn't get you the free shipping after original order was backordered.

I would say you could order from Mid-America, but when I ordered exhaust parts from them last month, the parts came packed from...  You guessed it - Corvette Central.  Oh, and they were nearly 30% more from MAM!

Yes, I figured some of the vendors had the same merchandise, too.

All this work, reseraching and finding what I needed... and it gets you nowhere.

It gets old talking to 3 different reps and tell your "story." I quit the order on the spot and ended up leaving my #. They should empower their service reps to - something that is not out of line.

You'd think they would have jotted down some notes on my order, so i didn't have to explain myself over and over. Any company in their right mind would call back asap (without me having to insist on that) to try and get an order done.

They did keep my order info in the sytem... that is my credit card and address, though. Go figure.

Now I wish I would have kept my ss sidepipes on the car...

I used Pypes performance, they make the systems and do a pretty good job. Pricing is about average.

I don't wanna jump in on a vendor complaint, but I haven't had very good luck getting anything from CC...ever. Always out of stock, back-ordered, no longer stocked, something. I hear their exhaust systems are really good, and their interior stuff, but...it ain't worth a hoot if they don't have it....

I am having my exhaust custom built by a local shop called budget muffler. Im getting a full 2.5 system from the manifolds back, with glasspacks, no cats and turndowns at the end. Total cost 160. Just some food for thought. Shop your local small guy muffler shops.

I order parts all the time from Corvettte Central and have had no problems getting parts. I did order a vacuum hose kit that took 3 weeks to get but no one else had it to ship. I found that CC pricing is lower than most other supply houses.

I ended up being called back. a lady named Connie took care of my concerns and swapped parts out that i wanted... for the most part.

I had to get the kit i wanted but with reg muffs- the magnaflow backorder is still going to at least june 21... and there's no guarantee that date stands. I'm already skin deep in waiting and not going to risk this being a month or longer thing.

So, I'll wait to comment fully on the service and quality until I get the parts in my hands and installed.

I ended up buying even more stuff from them, too (was a bit upset with them, but i needed the parts).

I still feel somewhat slighted. You never get your time back.

BTW, anyone interested in a set of sidepipes and freshly painted covers? Really don't want to ebay these things.

I too went to the 'Local shop' about 50 miles from home, he did a great job, had my '78   3 days and stands behind his work for as long as I own the car. I forgot to tell him that I've owned the car for 22 yearsWink so far and dought I'll ever sell it.LOL
I went with 2 1/4 aluminum, he had a new set of Turbo mufflers from Summit that he had just bought for another guy that changed his mind, he did a great job with the turn-downs too, all for $185. I was pleased....

Glad to hear you got a good, local deal. All my last cars for the past 15 years were done by a local guy. He did good quality work, and stood by his work. I trusted him, but I always had to be very specific as to what I wanted. He was cool to even allow me to double-check things (fitment issues, etc) and go out to see under the car. But I have to admit, I never got stainless and it still always took longer and cost a bunch. He ended up moving and I never got his new address. But maybe that's a good thing, for I kind of wanted to install it myself- as in a kit form. This is my first Corvette, and double that for a C3 w/ dual exhaust. The CC kit is not mandrel bent- something I always use to insist on. Now I'm willing to compromise a bit when it comes to Corvette's low ride height, exhaust pipes through the crossmember, and muffs hanging out back in tight area. Cost was definitely a factor. I just couldn't pay nearly $800 for a Magnaflow SS kit (also didn't like the dual round tailpipes for 70-73 on their kit- it really should be simple, more stock-looking rectangular shape. And this is coming from a guy that had Magnaflow muffs on his last 3 cars. I'm not driving this in the snow/salt, either. So aluminized will last quite a while. I figure the kinks will help with not having chassis issues. My 454 isn't a wild motor - it doesn't really need a full blown 3" mandrel-bent, custom kit anyways. Or maybe I'm just getting soft in my late-30s.

Here's my recent experience with the exhaust on my Vette. Researched all the Corvette vendors for a complete kit. Couldn't find anything that suited me. Checked out the Pypes system at Summit racing and liked the way it sounded. Kit price $540. Then went to Meineke Muffler where I have some of the work done on my vehicles and talked to them about it. After sdome more research I decided to go with Meineke. Got 2.5 inch pipes with an "H" crossover pipe, Flowmaster mufflers, welded, not clamped joints. Price: $636. For a little under $100 more than the Pypes system I saved myself all the labor and aggravation of doing it myself (I have no lift), and got a guaranteed system that I can take to any Meineke and have repaired if necessary. So compared to many of systems out there it was the way to go for me. I would look into it if In were you.
Here is a video of the way it sounds.
