Hi all,
What should the fuel pressure be for a stock fuel pump at idle?  This is on a 1972 350 SB.
Thanks.

All 1970 and later should be 7 1/2 to 9 psi according to my shop manual.

Thanks, appreciate the reply.  My fuel pressure at idle is bouncing back and forth from 3 to about 9.  I'm hoping this is what is causing my problems.

Bouncing from 3-9# seems kind of erratic. Maybe the gauge or the location it's tapped in at.

A gauge bouncing that much would indicate either a weird gauge, or a faulty check-valve in the fuel pump.
It could also be because of a float/needle/seat issue that allows the float to be bounced off the seat each time the pump stokes, which would cause a flooding issue, but, you didn't say what the actual problem is.

The gauge is a new holley along with a new holley 770 carb; but I had the same problem with the old carb which was a Edel.  The gauge is tapped right into the fuel line that is attached to the carb.  The motor acts like its missing when you tap the gas; but when I'm on the road and step into it she gets up and goes.  I need to have someone sit in the car and take reading at different rpm to see what the pressure does.  Maybe I should just change it and be done with it.
