Can anyone tell what this bottle is for? Is located behind the right front wheel well on my 1981 and has one vacuum line from rear of carb to top of bottle. Says Property of Gasaver Corp. Is not gas inside, at least has no odor.

way back when Dinosaurs still ruled the earth, a company came up with a way to save gas. You filled the container with water or some other concoction and it was sucked into the engine. Depending on the theory it would cool the gas charge or enhance it.

Laugh if you want but I had an 1979 AMC Concord with a 232 six in it and this thing actually gave me 30mpg using windshield washer fluid. Keep laughing I hear you. It did work. though.

It was all in the adjustment of the valve for the fluid.

So this is not something that is really needed now? Or fill it with washer fluid and see how much my mpg improves. If it works why laugh, cheaper than 103 octain.

Now if you want to fill your fuel tank with premium and put an octane booster in that goofy lil plastic mouthwash jug then I might be pursuaded to oblidge yer train o thoughts....

At any rate yer rite it has no immediate value and could be removed with no remorse or ill sided effects.....

I actually used to sell a device similar to that, and they DO work. The bottle has a chemical in it mixed with water. Engine vacuum pulled thru the hose, and there is a fresh air intake with a variable orifice control, and the fresh air intake had a tube that went down into the liquid. What it does is create a vapor from the chemical/water mix as engine vacuum pulls thru the bottle, and the tube, and causes the liquid mixture to bubble. (Some of you might compare it to a bong...you know who you are

)
The vapor would then be drawn into the intake, and the result was a little more low end torque, as well as slightly better fuel mileage. The ones we used absolutely worked. The first one I installed was on our wrecker, and the difference was incredible. The mixture that was used was, I believe, a compound that was alcohol-based.

I doubt that what you have is even operational at this point, so getting rid of it and plugging the vacum line would most likely be the way to go.

Tommy, thats an interesting find. As much as you have been in, under, and around that vette Im surprised that you havent found that thing before. I hope removing it makes a difference.

But...how much does the platinum stuff cost? My guess(and that's all it is) is that by the time you add up the $$$ spent on the solution to put in the bottle, you've already spent the money saved by getting better mileage...
The crap we used in our bottles was like $3 a can, and it would last about a month in the wrecker. The one I put on me Dad's Caddy would last about 2 months...I wish I could remember the name of the dang thing...
The whole concept is neat, and actually goes back to WWII, if I remember correctly. It was used to "inject" methanol into the plane engines...

I used to work at an airport a long time ago fueling aircraft. On a DC-6 which has 4 large radial engines, I had to fill a tank with ADI fluid (anti- detonation injection), a 50/50 mix of methonol and water. This cooled the incoming charge of fuel and increased performance quite a bit. It is still used on some planes today including racing aircraft.

Water/alcohol injection systems are still used on some under powered turbine helicopters to bring down power turbine temperatures. If you have a helo that has high EGTs at sea level it becomes unusable at high density altitudes because the turbine temp and EGT is near redline. That's a no-no for sure. I don't care to fly those machines, but the system does work.

The mfgrs won't use it because of the NIH syndrome..."Not Invented Here". Plus, there is the issue of having to replenish the solution used, in whatever system it is. Most people today can barely remember to change their oil once every year...you think they're gonna remember to add some poop to the bottle under the hood? doh
