I am shopping for exhaust systems. Does anyone have any preferances? I have a set of headers on it but that is it. I have toyed with the idea of Hooker Headers and side pipes but the $$$ are kind of steep. What about the chambered exhaust behind headers, or just a factory replacement behind headers, and does anybody know what a stage 2 system is.Confused I need to make a dicision pretty soon, I think my neighbors are getting tired of the noise coming from my garage. By the way its a 454.
Thanks
Lonnie

On "The Toy" I upgraded to 2 1/2" from the stock 2" a few years ago.  Went with a system from Corvette Central and have been happy with the sound (not too loud, not too quiet - just right).

On "BIGBRRD" the stock system was toast so it all got pulled off.  The new system is Heddman 'shorty' headers into 3" Pypes X-pipe into Flowmaster Delta 50s.  That produces some RUMBLE inside the car at 55/60 MPH but is nice and mellow at idle.

Lots of choices - HAVE FUN...!!!

I just had the 2 1/2 chambered installed, and it sounds oh so sweet. I cant believe ive been muffling my baby all these years. You also gain some work room with the mufflers being removed. I had an issue with the 255 60 r15 tires I have, but no more. Just remember to order the 2 1/2 transmission mount bracket.

Like Mr. Mako, I went with the chambered system om my small block. I am very happy with the sound and losing the stock mufflers really opens up the back end.

I also went with the chambered exhaust, hooked to Hooker super competition headers. I love the sound and the appearance from the rear of the car.

Does the Chambered System use the same brackets, Mr Mako said something about a transmission bracket? I had a 68 435HP convertable in high school that had chambered side pipes, with them under the car will it sound about the same? That was such a sweet sound.

I can't tell you anything about the brackets but having had a couple of factory side pipe cars, I can tell you that the sound is the same at the rear of the car. It's sounds different to the driver because the exhaust isn't right at your left ear.

The transmission bracket on the original exhuast is for a 2 inch diameter pipe, while the chamber pipes are 2 and 1/2. I forgot to have mine changed. every thing bolted up fine, my only concern over time would be wear at the point of contact on the bracket. You probably can grind the original bracket to fit the new pipes better if you didnt want to buy a new one. The only other reused items are the muffler hanger mounts. I still use the stock exhuast manifolds. The kit I ordered from ecklers included new exhuast tips.

Since Lonnie is talking about exhaust, I need to put a system on after I get the new motor back in. With chamber exhaust on a coupe, can you carry on a normal converstaion at freeway speeds. Most of my time spent driving is at 70 to 75 mph. Don't want something thats going to give me a headach after a hour. The motor is a 350 with Hooker Comp headers.

All big blocks used the 2 1/2" exhaust, so the bracket at the trans should work just fine.

When the time comes to replace the exh on the '74, it will be replaced with the undercar chambered system.

Thanks for the answer on the bracket Joel. I will have to find one since it's not on the car now.
Thanks

Chambered!!!!  They sound so good and free up a few ponies too.  A friend of mine with a 78 Pace Car, put a set on his car after he heard mine a few times.

I had the emission control removed and had straight pipes added, replaced the mufflers with Monza mufflers. The sound is great and according to Eckler's each muffler adds 15 hp and although some say removing the emission control doesn't help the hp, thats not what my 77 says, she flies. Gene (removing the emission control is not legal)

Cmon !! What is cooler then shiny 4 inch sidepipes that get to be about 1000 degrees. Ouch !!
Look really good, sound really good, be careful if you do not have a protective shield. You can't go wrong either way.

I think I'm goin with the 2 1/2 chambered with my Heddman Headers. Now the next question is who to buy from. It looks like Ecklers is about $450.  and that includes tips. Mid America is $300.00 and no tips, I saw some on Ebay for $300.00 no tips. I'll keep looking and if anyone knows of a better deal or someone else they are happy with let me know.
Thanks
Lonnie

I got mine from MAM. I'm not done with them yet. I'm having a little trouble trying to figure out which side is which. I don't have the stock crossmember in it and it's a little tricky as there are no instructions that come with them. I being very annall about ground clearance as my car is lowered about 2" that don't leave much room for error!!!Dead
If one of you guys have a photo of the underside of your chambered pipes-I sure would like to see them.Thumbs%20Up
