I bought my 76 vette this past May off a private owner. I had my son with me and we did some basic research. My wish list was 75-77 and a stick. I wasnt looking for a show car, just a Vette in decent shape. When i saw and heard her, I fell in love. Since May i learned a few things about my treasure, she' s not a GrandSport as the emblem states. I jst had her tunefthis past weekend and the mechanic informed me that her engine is from a 69 camaro. I love my girl and though she' s no longer " all natural" she still turns heads. Hence my question- may i still consider myself a Vette owner and qelcomed to this Registry which Ive also come to love?

As others may say being a corvette owner is to be an individual. You take your car and make it your own.Weather you have a numbers matching NCRS car just a driver it's a corvette and it's all in what you want...so enjoy you car to the fullest.

Simple question.  Did it start out life being a C3 Corvette.  It did and you cannot change that.  Lots of guys modify their C3 is ways that some others may be would not do but they are C3's as long as the VIN says they are.

Sharon, just remember we are all part of this elite group. But the real issue in "Vette owner" is Who OWNS Who?..............namely the Vettes own us..........we all love them, that's why we are all here. Good luck with your baby!

The fact that your baby needed a heart transplant at some point in the past does not lessen her status as a corvette or your status as a C3 owner.  You and your corvette are welcome and we are glad you are here.

I have owned a 1980 Corvette since new. The frame off rebuild is coming to an end and it has a lot of new/different parts than what was on the car originally.

Is it still a Corvette????  You bet your sweet bippy it is.  When the neighbor comes over, he always asks about the status of the Corvette. He never asks about the status of a Plymouth.  When you drive a Corvette it's a head turner, a Neon not so much.

Enjoy your car. It's a piece of history.   Oh yeah.... this is a great forum with great folks in it who have a lot of knowledge of historical cars like yours and mine.

Thanks All. You are all right. Ive already had her in two local car shows. I knew she wouldnt be trophy worthy, but shes definitely show worthy in my opinion. Funny that she was even painted the Grandsport blue with large white racing stripe. Mornings before I head to work, i still peek in the garage and think "dang" shes mine. Shes definitely " defining" me. Ive always loved the Mako Shark body style. Though i dont have the big bucks to sink into alot of cosmetic restoring, i she will get the TLC she needs. My dad was a mechanic and now i wish i wouldve taken more interest in how they run versus how they look. So thats why Im here....to get educated and seek advise. Thanks again all!

First, welcome to the best source of C3 information on the net!

Secondly - congratulations - enjoy your ride, have a blast. Yes, you own and drive a Corvette! Look around, not many people can say that.

I would guess that most of our 35+ year old cars are far from perfect and have many non original parts, etc. That really only matters to the NCRS and Barrett-Jackson, etc. crowds, not that there is anything wrong with that either.

We're glad to have you and there are some true experts here to help you along the way. (be it a car problem or anything else life may throw at you from time to time)

- now how about a picture of that pretty car? Clap

Sharon,
Yes you are a vette owner! As many have said in this post, not many people can claim themselves as a vette owner. Heres the coolest part, when you drive down the street and people stare at your vette, I assure you that no one is questioning the parts that make up that vette. They are all just wishing they had one. now as far as the motor being a 69 camaro engine, that sounds like a much better choice then my 74 has in it. I pulled my original motor that only had 26K on it and no problems in exchange for a 1972 chevy breadtruck motor. Yea, maybe we did rebuild it and give it some extra goodies and then dress it up really pretty but its still a breadtruck engine from a junk yard. And I never have had anyone question the motor since Ive done it. They just stare and slobber wishing they had one! Enjoy your VETTE! You are truly a Vette owner.
Oh, Welcome to the C3VR family. Your gonna like it here!
Rodney

Now for more important "stuff"...........I see you figured how to post pictures (It only took me 5 years to do that.......I'm really quickWacko) Beautiful machine! BlueHeart is the right color for Corvettes (don't let anyone tell you otherwise). I see the exhaust exiting in front of the rear tires......pretty wild! In your pic, there appears to be something under the Stingray......what is that?..........( If you don't mind my asking) As ebo mentioned............you are hooked....it's obvious! Enjoy!!!Thumbs Up

Sharon, nice looking Vette. I like the white stripe does it continue across the rear deck?
Ohio is a good location as you should be able to reach the Mid and the East gatherings if you wish. Not sure how far you are from the "Rook" but stay a safe distance from him.....bad news, almost as bad as Corvette440.and he's in Ohio also. Big smile
Again, welcome and enjoy that sweet ride!

That looks like a calendar picture if you have a Hi res version.  You have until 15 Oct to submit it.  If it is not a high res version take it back to that spot or an other one a nice and shoot one.

Corvette440hp it took me a couple try re the picture. If you are talking about the emblem it says Grandsport under Stingray....another thing I learned about my treasure. I researched the Internet to find out what made her a Grandsport only torealize they werent made in 76. The previous owner repainted her and applied the stripe, so im thinking they were trying to make it a Grandsport wannabe, lol. Ebo, stripe goes all the way. Yep, i love the blue, ill eventually repaint and will keep the blue however thats way dowm the road. Pipe setup is what makes her rumble, but kinda hard to carry on a conversation in the car, lol. Something else i may change later.

Ebo's just jealous that he doesn't have a BLUE Vette. He ONLY has a RED one and a WHITE one. AS YOU SEE Sharon ebo hates me..........even if we are brothers! I read about the tour, car is still in the shop, but who knows Springboro isnt all that far. I want to get a good drive in before i garage her for the winter. Which leads to something else id like suggestions on. My garage is detached, not heated. What can i do thru the winter to ensure shell be good come spring?

Sharon, earlylife, midlife, or latelife it's all about enjoying life. What better way to enjoy it then in a beautiful Vette. We are a select group.........in my eyes. Other people don't just understand our passion.
Now as far as storage.............................it's a bit of a drive but head to ebo's place in NY. He'll watch over your baby like a mother henWink. Another suggestion if the ebo thing don't do it for you is:..........................a car bag!

Thanks for the link, ill check it out. Yeah, NY a bit of a treck, plus i wouldnt be able to peek on her. A friend sent me an article with suggestions about scattering moth balls around the engine, putting fabric around the tail pipes to keep crittets out, and put those packets ( like they put in shoe boxes) in rhe compartment to keep down mildew. Car bag sounds alot easier. Seems to me like you and the Rook need to call a truce! Hey Rook, trust me stripe runs front to back:)

You can cut up Irish Spring bars and place in various places..........the critters don't like the smell. Or Bounce fabric softener sheets. Yes if you store in the bag desiccant bags absorb the moisture. The good thing about the bag it seals under and all over. Disconnect the battery or remove it. I've even convinced ebo to go with the bag. There are different theories about a full tank of gas (reduces condensation) or part tank because in the spring you can add a half tank of fresh fuel to mix with the old stuff. Add fuel stabilizer and run the engine a bit to circulate it thru the fuel lines and carburator. There are many different opinions on this winter storage issue.

Sharon, Larry did talk me into bagging the car and I have it at home still in the box. May put it up this weekend not sure. I'm hoping for one last indian summer ride.
Please excuse Larry some times his meds work, some times not so much. Please note it is a full moon. If you have ever been around a mental hospital you would under stand that 2 day's prior and 2 days after a full moon some people even with the best medication still become imbalanced............... Sharon, when I ordered my car bag they said it could be three weeks and it would be dropped shipped from the manufacture. I found it on my door step in three days!
My garage is also unattached, and being out in the country I get familys of field mice, the ones with the cute ears.
Well here is how I handle that, ....my kids do not want me to kill them so....
I have a 5 gallon bucket (sheet rock mud bucket) where the top handle attaches I run a piece on solid wire (tie wire) from one side to the other so it's like walking a tight rope.
I take a soda can (in rooks case it would be a beer can, in larrys case it would be a laxitive can) anyhow.....
I make a small hole on the bottom of the can right in the middle, and another hole on the top right next to the drink opening. Before I attach the tight rope wire I run it through the soda can. Once attached to bucket you will be able to spin the soda can freely.
You following all this?
Heres where it gets fun, now I take peanut butter and run a line of it down the lenght of the can, I rotate the can 1/3rd and apply another line, rotate 1/3rd and apply another line. Center the can in middle of the opening.
Now set this fairly close to your vette place a stick or yardstick from the floor leaning right onto the bucket.
The mice walk up the stick, they walk the tight rope, they climb onto the can, it spins and they fall into the bucket. If you want them dead you put water in the bottom and they drown. In my case I take the bucket for a ride and release them in front of the guys house that has a 1969 Mach1 in his garage.
I'll take a picture of this set up. but I'll tell you it really works, I'll come home and hear the mice trying to jump out. One time I took a red magic marker and ran a stripe down its back and set it free. I said if you come back I'll kill you! Can you imagine what the gang said once he showed up with a racing stripe......"You big dummy you!"
You can also sell them to pet shops and use the money for vette parts.....Wink

Ebo............that's weird............I've been doing the same thing for years..........except I do in on a much larger scale. Crazy women come wandering around to check out my vette. Sooo, I do that same thing to trap them. The real nice ones I release and take them home. The others I just release back to the wild. I never, ever do such a dastardly deed as the ebo.........by painting a scarlet letter on them. And then having to face their friends with the scarlet letter (identifying them as ebo women). And further more I've NEVER sold ANY of them to pet shops..........MAN!
