Well I finally have time to get Adam's old Corvette into the shop to start on it.  I bought it in May drove it for days tagged it and the power steering went out so its been sitting here resting.  Time for Paint !!!  We opted to sand it rather that strip it as the Body was in Great shape and still has all of its original panels.  The paint was Sunburned but not peeling anywhere.  So far the front has been sanded seams repaired and some small areas addressed and its now in its first coat of 2K primer for one of many Block sanding parties!!!  I am getting ready to cut the front fenders to fit the optional front spoiler.  More updates shortly.

Cool!! Adam, don't spend that do-re-mi yet!!Big smile

I'd recommend shooting some epoxy sealer before getting to your next primer layers. Years of sunburn surely have soaked some things into that paint that grease and wax remover won't find.Thumbs Up

Big smile Ah YES, Nice to see the old girl again. Spent a few hours leaning on her fenders and checking on her welfare myself.  The casino supplied the cash and EBO and I took time out of the C-3 gathering in Mystic to confirm he would be part of the group.  Hope to see the new dress code at a C-3 gathering in the future. Maybe the BOSS will want it back.    Mark

Well its been a week plus taking the waves out of the front bumper. We use sem bumper repair to fill the deep areas after proper sanding and prep. We wait a day between recoatings for dry time then sand prep and fill again. Then we use the 2 part 3M bumper repair material to finish , again allow the proper dry time. After a week plus of straightening the bumper its now straight and going in primer. You will see many rings of applications to get it straight. Take a look at it wet its there now !!!!!

Wow no wonder those plastic surgens get so much money for straightening a nose!

Jim,
Thank you for the updates!
It kinda looks orange in the pictures. I hope that is the florescent light doing that.
Also, how come you didn't pull the bumpers and doors before you sprayed? I thought that gives it a better finish.
When it's done, you know you're gonna have to let me come visit her, right!?!?! Cry

It does look kinda orangey but I'm sure it's the lighting. I've been wondering how the car was doing! It's neat seeing the color and clear coat in process since I didn't get to see mine! Keep up the good work!  Thumbs Up

If you properly prep the car there is no need to remove the doors or front bumper and you get a better and safer job. Installing the front bumper after its painted is bad enough without having to worry about paint cracking when its tightened. I have restored dozens of this vintage CC3 Corvettes and they come out great this way !!! Look at the bumper fit No Paint build up !!! looks like it was installed after paint. Jim

Jim,

Thanks for the outside shots!  She looks MUCH better (and Redder) in the sunlight!

So, have you done anything to the engine, interior or weatherstripping/t-tops yet?
If so, what have you done?
If not, do you have plans for any of those areas? What are the plans?

Hey, also, I just noticed, the body panel t-tops were not on top in the shop. Did you spray those at the same time? (Off the car, I'm guessing)

Dog gone good job!!  Ya know, I wanted to buy that car but it's a good thing Jim bought it.  If Adam knew that I was thinking it would be sweet to paint it hot pink, his jaw would of dropped off....LOLLOL.....that would match the Louis V. seat covers and interior.....it would be so awesome for this female vette lover!  Oh YEAH!!PartyBeer

Adam I obtained an NOS steering wheel, Beautifull original door panels, new armrest, center armrest,NOS emblems and door handles, and a repro carpet set . The interior will be stunning done !!! I adjusted the Glass tops that I am going to keep on the car. All of the other parts were painted seperately. The roofs off and hood off for No paint line in the jambs. I am going with the New OEM Latex door weatherstrips. I will keep You posted. Jim
