The Corvette Buildsheet Book was rolled out a couple of weeks ago at the National Corvette Museum. Copies were donated to the museum to assist staff with the many questions they get about St Louis assembly plant build records.

The book chronicles the history of the General Motors Assembly Division manifest (buildsheet) during the 1973-82 production years. Here's a link to the Introduction page of the book

No...it wasn't meant to provide specific vehicle info like that. Tom mostly, from what little I have seen, is giving more info on the changes in formats of the sheets over the years, and what info was/was not provided on those sheets. Also breaks down sections of the sheet to describe what each little box means, what some of the hand written notes mean, etc. Tom's been researching this stuff for years, and finally had enough solid info to publish.
And yes...I'll be getting it eventually....Thumbs Up
As kind of a Corvette history buff, it will be of great interest.
Damn, But still this book will not provide me with a copy of the build sheet for my St Louis 1981 Vette !!
Yeah...my 78 Silver Anniversary does not have one either but the book tells me what all those markings are scratched on body panels. Two considerations

1. I suspect I know the answer, but have you explored all options? In the fifth chapter I describe sources where owners have had success.  Owners have had luck with vettes shipped to Canada and tapping GM of Canada. Or, the GM Media Center and the dealer invoice service...granted not the same but confirms options.

2. The study guide also tells the story from a document perspetive of how a Corvette was assembled based on those build records and toggles between a buildsheet and process documented on the vehicle whether its a job number or the trim tag date code and where in the process those kind of tasks were completed.

I realized I had not included this on my original post but the $42 includes shipping and handling for registry members.

I worked this up for our Corvette chapter as a tech article but thought this excerpt from Chapter 3 would offers some insights into the depth that the study guide pursues. This chapter is titled Buildsheet Data by Model Year
.

Dan...its coil bound so can be used in the shop or under the car while holding a flashlight! Big smile

Size is 8.5 x 11, 54 pages, 52 colored pages. I went with coil bound over the plasti-coils...better quality and longevity. Lot of the tech guides from NCRS are wrapped that way.

thanks for asking!

BTW...here's the TOC

Eric has been extremely helpful with information that shaped this correctly for the C3 market. I had another vendor say he was impressed with the coil binder that was an Eric recommendation.

I set up a buildsheet blog as well. I get common questions from various sources and thought it might be instructive for readers or enthusiasts have one source where it would serve as a FAQ type source.

The model year 1973 was the first year the GMAD buildsheet (General Motors Assembly Division) used the landscape style buildsheet for the Corvette. We know that 1973 was the year we see the GMAD manifest glued to gas tanks. Before 1973, Corvette assembly was under the management of the Chevrolet Motor Division.

I have been following this thread with great interest. It Appears that Tom has done an excellent job of putting the information together that is not available from GM.Thumbs Up  Who knew that 40+ years later that anybody would care anything about these cars.

Unfortunately, the book won't do much good for my 72Unhappy but I did find the build sheet on top of my tank and it is in very good (readable) condition.Big smile  I have removed and preserved it.

The NCM website is now discounting the book to $29.99. Corvette Buildsheet Book BOKCORVBUILDSHEET The Corvette Buildsheet Book is for the third generation Corvette (C3) owner, collector, hobbyist or prospective buyer who wishes to understand Corvette assembly production broadcast codes, how those codes were used to tag parts and how the buildsheet documented original buyer options. Six chapters cover a range of topics exclusive to those build records of this period. Numerous color illustrations compliment a detailed analysis of build records and guide the reader to understand how to interpret buildsheet data whether its an RPO, broadcast code or retrieving job numbers from schedule data. The study guide is coil bound, in an 8.5" x 11” format with 53 pages and 52 detailed tables and color illustrations. Was $42.00, now $29.99 (Savings: $12.01)

Hib Halverson, technical writer for Corvette magazines, wrote a review of the Corvette Buildsheet Book and posted it at the Corvette Action Center.  He included both barbs and humor in the review and its worth a read.

Wull....technically, he's correct...if ya wanna nit-pick. "Motor" is used to describe electrical motors, while the term "Engine" is used to describe the internal combustion engine(or rocket fueled power supplies). Geek

"Deep Geek"???? LOL
It's a nice review, anyway! Thumbs Up
