Hello all! Life keeps you busy and though I go through cycles of activity with the vette, I do still drive it and enjoy it. I've been a little more active lately. Some basic info now. It's a 71. It has an 80-82 aluminum differential (with the batwing). I had a universal joint go bad on the left half shaft. I finally figured out they were the auto trans half shafts, so I got the correct replacements. Replaced all half shaft u joints. This was a couple months ago. A few weeks ago, the ujoint in the same spot failed. I assuming the original failure dmaged the race on the half shaft, which would aloow for movement of the the replaceement u joint. So, I have a replacement half shaft on order, easy peasy.

The bigger question is, how the heck do I determine what year my frame is? Like I said, I have a 71 (convertible). 4 speed muncie (that shifts like butter - still - thanks Joel!), the transmission crossmember is bolt in, indicating an auto frame. The clutch rod mounting bracket is welded on.

Right now, I'm thinking it's a 71 frame, and had the rear crossmember removed so the batwing could go in. I'm making this assumption based on the very rear of the frame. It doesn't have the two dips on the top, which from what pictures I've been able to find, the bubble back c3's have. I may be completely wrong on this..I've been searching all morning and just can't find the info I need.

First question: Does anyone have a source for pictures of ALL c3 frames, by year?

Second question: Is the crossmemebr that the 68-79 differential crossmember bolts to welded to the frame or is it bolted in (the one that the sombrero mounts are attached to)?

I might entertaiin converting back to the proper diff setup if I don't have to weld. Though, that would be a someday project. Maybe.
