"74 is not likely going to be a high dollar seller but I understand that its just not a collectors care since it isnt a chromie. And right now all car values are down! "

It is just a matter of time ... once the chromies put most buyers out of their market... the next group will come up in value... especially any special editions or big blocks etc.. From visiting auctions.. That's what's happening with the '73 big block, conv,  right now...

Unfortunately, scrap is all my old engine is worth! Everyone that has looked at it can't understand how it ran at all! There was so much crap in the heads and sludge in the oil and antifreeze it made you sick. The worst part is it actually DID run pretty well! Oh well, all that is forgotten because tomorrow I pick up my Vette with it's NEW 400 + HP engine and fresh paint! Can't be happier (except driving it)!

Scrap metal makes good boat anchors!!Wink

Rod, unless you plan to go back to an NOS rest on the 74, I'd take the doneros and invest in more current needs.

IMHO.

Care for a newbie's opinion?  I have a '78 that HAD an L-82.  I know that  it needed valve work. They made over 42,000 Corvettes in '78, so a plain, black one was never going to be a 'high-dollar' car to anybody (beside me).  I sold the L-82 to my mechanic (for $400) after he dropped a ZZ4 into my '78.  I do have one rare option.  I do not remember the exact number, but one time I looked in the "Black Book" and found that some where around the 800 mark was the number of AM/FM/CB radio's for an option.  I had a place here pull it and get ALL parts working, even the CB part.  That is just my humble opinion.

Give yourself more credit, Dave! You may be new around here, but not many of us have a ride as nice as yours! That in itself gives you C3VR cred! Besides, opinions are always welcome around here! What we like is participation!

Well I have to say I was surprised to see this post was back on the board the last few days. I have sold the motor because for me it had no value for the future. Some may see it differently but I dont see a 74 ever having great value and I made the decision to customize it with a modified engine. If I should ever sell it, the next owner will have to be ok with my decision or else he wont own it! LOL Also if the time ever comes to sell it and I hear the story from a potential buyer that its not worth as much without the original engine I will tell them to take a walk. Wont listen to it. My line will be "its for sale as is not as you want it! Look else where for a car thats as you want it!" It may sound hard but its just the truth.
As for all the opinions from the group here I respect each and everyones thoughts. There are many different correct answers and the final answer will always be the one the owner makes. Since I removed and did the engine swap almost three years ago I have enjoyed driving the car more then I had previously. When I'm in it I cant stop smiling. Now if I could only get to that point on the 72!
Keep on drivin these old classics!

Rodney

As I have mentioned before Barry, it had nothing to do with not keeping up. I can run with the best but there is a safe and then a not so safe. I prefer safe not sorry. Hope that never becomes an issue! I have family that I want to continue to be here for.
Once you lose friends because they think that driving fast is cool and it will never happen to them, then one day it does you will understand why I feel this way. I has nothing to do with shocks, tires or engines. Sorry I held that in so long. Hope you finally understand.
Rodney

Now we were only going fast a  LITTLE while! I understand totally, Rod.  But we wern't at any time being reckless or weaving in and out of traffic. A little running does them good!
