1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.

So True. My C3 has been down for the better part of 3 months and in SoCal every day is a Corvette day.

I starting to forget how wonderful it is to just get out a cruise.

The first post on this thread is so true. I see a C3 out on the road every couple of days as there are a lot of them in the San Diego area.

I really do not know how you guys last the winter. Not meaning to pull your legs just it is so much fun to just get out and drive.

No offense to those that own C5s and C6s but I've stopped waving first. I'll wave back if they wave first but they seldom do. I'm more apt to wave at an old Chevelle or Camaro than a new Corvette - and they're more likely to wave back.

I Colorado we have more that 300 days a year of sunshine. If it's a Sat. and the sun is out and the roads dry I take mine out for a cruise. I say I'm going out to charge the battery. If it's 30 or above and sunny I bundle up and put the top down. It's exhilarating and you get the waves and looks. Sometimes we local vette owners gather for lunch at a local mamma pappa eatery. It's what I have to do to keep from getting the shakes every time I walk by my '68 in the garage.

You guys in the warmer climate are really making this winter difficult. Can't wait for spring! I too like getting the waves and smiles from the kids...one kid asked me if that was the batmobile? I find Harley riders wave a lot and so do other guys in their classic cars; C6 owners not so much.

Don't take it personal guys, In my C6 I've waved at C6s and not always got a return wave!

You never know how much into it a person will be. I bought my '98 Torch Red Roadster from a guy who never had one and wanted one. He said, "I've had it for 11 months and the thrill is gone, I want the money for a RV, so the family can go camping"

This car is bone stock with a 6spd and Z51 performance suspension package and at 15 yrs only had 63,335. A 4 owner always in Colorado car. It is as tigh as new and runs great I dare say he didn't even know the tradition of the wave.

His lose was my gain. Anyway don't brand all C5, C6 owners as being snobs especially with the C7s now out, they my now be shunned

To each their own. You'll find this sort of "exclusivity" permeates the passionate owners of whatever spins their crank. Case in point...Harley riders LOVE to wave at other Harley riders but sure as heck don't wave at any other motorcycles on the road....other than maybe an occasional 2 finger biker salute to a BMW here and there. Ducati riders used to be the same way. I picked up a Jap sport bike, made a custom solo seat and some other body work, changed the exhaust etc. and painted it with some leftover Ferrari paint a friend of mine had. Guess what...it looked like a wierd 907 peso or 851 Ducati...and ya they started waving at me...sooo funny. Then they'd walk up when parked and figure out it was a Honda CBR F1 Hurricane....ha ha ha!
Look, many of the C5/6 owners are looking for a world class sports car...they are not muscle car guys and just aren't curious about classic cars. Most don't turn a wrench. You see the same thing with Mustang owners etc. No biggy. I'm just happy the badge lives on. I'll tell ya what though, as a kid C3's were everywhere. I've never thought of them as "classic" cars until recently. When I was dragging my 72 home last Nov. I was surprised at the attention received at the gas station. I had 3 different people at one stop go out of their way to walk over the trailer just to say "nice car!". One was an affluent looking lady in a Lexus SUV. When my tow rig gave up and I dropped the vette off the trailer in a shopping center parking lot...surprise of surprises...3 teenage young lady's smiled and said nice car...now that I really didn't expect...and I'm 49 and thought hey this thing is cooler than I anticipated. Should be a fun summer running around Lake Tahoe! And I will avoid Incline Village....I hear ALL the snobs live up there. LOL!

I live is San Diego County and I will have to say that when driving my vette (have not for 3 months) I get return waves 90% of the time from all models. I think it is a case of not knowing the tradition. Or being so distracted with what you are doing at the time and they are unable or do me see the wave.

I sometime wave at C3 when not in my C3 and mostly get ignored. Am I breaking a rule in doing that? If you are not in one you cannotwave?

I had no idea about "the wave" until it was discussed one time on this forum. In SoCal I would believe that it is mostly people not knowing more than be a snob.

Cruising Lake Tahoe what great fun I have to drive 1 hour to get to any cruising roads and they are not anyway as pretty as the pine forest or the greenery in parts of the country that gets rain.

Yes we warm country vette owners have a lot of advantages when it come to winter (especially this winter) but we typically do not have picture perfect places to drive close at hand. Do not get me wrong we have some great country to see and visit but it just takes a little freeway time to get there.

I am another one of those C-3 and C-5 owners. Previously had a C-1. When I drive my C-5 and attempt to wave to another newer Corvette owner, I rarely get a wave back. When I am driving my C-3 and wave to an older Vette I almost always get a return wave.

Must say though I really like driving my C-5 (Z-06) long distances while my 72 LT-1 coupe with 3:70 gears is a little more of a chore for the long haul but a blast locally. Just my .02. Thumbs Up

Funny. As I was reading this post, I didn't realize it started in 2006 until I noticed Micki saying she had "recently" bought a C5.

That said, this is an interesting post and I especially liked Ken's observation that someday the C6 owners will be like the C3 owners of today

However, I think the simple truth is this: the people who own C3's own them because they love the car and recognize that others who have them likely love them too - we are Enthusiasts.

SOME folks who own the more modern cars (as a newly minted C6 owner, I can attest that it's not ALL) have the cars because of how they expect to be treated or just from the status symbol standpoint. Those are the folks looking in as opposed to seeing out.

I'm glad to be one who sees the beauty in these cars, and in many cases, the people.

When I went home for lunch today, I couldn't help myself and had to drive the '68 back to work. It was 58 and clear here in Colorado Springs, CO. I love the simplicity of the '68 and as simple as it is, it's L-79 327ci 350 HT engine has 350 hp while my '98 is rated at 345 hp.

MPG is a different story with the '98 getting better than 30mpg on the road and the '68, well I just put gas in it and enjoy.

Your '98 actually has more horsepower than your '68. They changed how they rated hp in 1972. Your '68 probably has about 270 hp compared to your '98's 345.
