I know that one mistake a lot of new guys make is the purchase of the wrong technical manual for their car.  I own a couple of marginally useful corvette repair manuals

I once saw a company that had pdf CDs for the GM service manuals and cannot find it again but what I did run across is this place http://www.autorepairmanuals.biz/

They have a lot of manuals for things that have engines.  Prices seem to be good.  They do not have anything I personally interested in purchasing at this time.

I'm interested has anyone done business with them and does anyone agree that this looks like a good place for new guy to be directed to get OEM manuals.  I know I feel an OEM manual for the year of Corvette is the first purchase you should make even if you do not see yourself doing a lot of the repairs.  I do not do a lot of them myself but I can readup on what is involved.

Hi, I'm relatively new to this forum and see that you're a very insightful and helpful member and contributor. I'm familiar with the need to have an Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM), but what is an OEM? Thanks, sir! - Rudy

Rudy, Original Equipment Manufacture The best manual I have for my 1980 is the shop repair manual. This is the book they use at the dealerships garage. I bought mine from this awesum old guy that goes to Carlisle. I'll see if I can find his name and address for you. Once we find your vette you can order the books with your 50/50 winnings...... just saying..... ebo

The Factory Service Manual(FSM), or "Shop Manual" for the later cars, is THE manual to have for any repairs/troubleshooting on your car. "OEM" simply means Original Equipment Manufacturer".
Having the FSM on a disc is nice, BUT...I'm old skool...I gotta have a big honkin book to carry out to the garage when I need it. Having it on a disc is ok if you're looking for something to send to someone electronically, but if trying to work on your car, it's a little hard to drag a PC out there, and have it laying under the car with you. LOL

Haynes, Chilton, and other repair manuals are just too derned generic, and may not have the info/help yu need for every system on the car. The FSM does, and well worth the cost. I buy one any time I run across one, even if it is for  different year model. Ya just can't have too much information....right?Thumbs Up

I completely agree with Adam about the CD on both counts.  It is easier to locate things by name and to mail sections to others that may need help.  But I believe it is the second repair manual you purchase the first is a paper copy of your year.

Never had much luck taking my PC out to the garage with me.
