The same man did design all three.

I beleive Car 1 was the first time pop up headlights were used, but they were crank operated, not vacuum

Car 2 has a "first" for a feature - T-Tops.  It was patented and then, when used on the C3, GM was sued and the designer won (or so I heard) $100K plus royalties on each C3 with T-Tops

Car 3 is (if you look closer) built on a C3 body.  I have some closer pictures I'll post later.

Still interested in someone getting the name.  None of the guesses so far have been correct.

Before I read everyone's comments, I said to Frank they might have the same designer (Mitchell), but I specifically pointed out to him that the third car looked like it was built on a C3 platform - at least I got that one right.  Smile

So jealous - I would love to go to that museum....my all time FAV car is the Auburn Boattail Speedster.  What a beautiful piece of machinery.........  Ok - I'll stop day dreaming nowEmbarrassed

And The Rook takes the prize!  (Although Barb made a good call too!)

Car1 is a (I believe) a 1936 Cord.  Designer: Gordon Buehrig

Car2 is a 1948 TASCO (The American Sports Car COmpany).  Designer: Gordon Buehrig
here are a couple more shots (look at the back under glass - looks like a C2 or C3 back window to me!

Car3 (here are a few more shots)

is a 1979 Buehrig.  A Detroit businessman hired Buehrig to design a new car based on the Corvette.  It was the last car Buehrig designed.  The plan was to build about 50 of these, but only four were built.  This is the first of those four and it cost about $130K to build.  The blue and yellow (interior) were to mimic the colors of the Swedish flag.  Buehrig's wife was Swedish.

Thanks for playing!!!

Oh, and I still think Harley Earl's 1937 Buick "Y" concept car looks suspiciously like the Cord.  I mentioned this to the woman at the Heritage Center and she said she had heard that before, but had never seen the Cord.  I showed her the pictures and she agreed.  If Auburn/Cord/Deusy had not gone under in 1937, I wonder if they might have fought for copyright infringement.  Alas, much like how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of the Tootsie Pop, the world may never know

Oh, and I really wasn't too much of a fan of the TASCO - at least not the T-Tops - they looked horrible!

I also understand that in 1968 he sued GM for copying his patened T-tops on the vette.
