I have a 75' that I want to redo the fuel tank on. I have the sending unit out. The bladder seems to be streched at the mouth of the opening where the sending unit attaches. I do not see one listed in the catalogs for sale. Can they be reused? The screw holes and the leading edge are torn/rotten, and are very soft and streched. What are my options, and requirements? The inside of bladder is dirty. Needs to be cleaned. Lots of silt. What to do? THANKS! External of tank is very good.

You will more than likley not find a replacment bladder for your tank. Because of the saftey issues that could arrise by modifying your present tank I would suggest replacing your excisting tank with a new aftermarket replacment. Just my 2 cents worth.

Mark, I've also never seen a replacement bladder for sale and I don't think there's much in the market for a good used '75 tank. If the top end of the bladder is that bad you may have to go with a new tank w/o a bladder. I've used several new tanks manufactured by Quanta, they have always fit well and functioned properly. Good luck !!

You can normally remove the bladder, cut the top "seal" area off, and reuse it to seal the sending unit back to the bladderless tank. However..if the top of your bladder, where it seals, is damaged, obviously you can't re-use it. You can use a cork material to make your own gasket, or use some rubber sheeting to make a gasket. Either way, you shouldn't have to purchase a new tank, if your innerds are in good condition.

I replaced my tank with a tank that Eckler offers. It has a welded in nut ring that eliminates the bladder and I am happy with the results. This tank is a full 17 gallon tank. I could not find anyone that offers a tank with the nut ring welded in. So be cautious there are replacements, make sure there is a nut ring.

I have removed the bladder on our 75's. As mentioned I cut the top off and reused it as a gasket and it was fine. The earlier vettes didn't have a bladder. It was a safety feature of the day although in reality if you get rear ended it's not going to make much difference. Debatable I guess.

The bladder glue dries out and collapses in the tank so you can't add more then about 12 gallons.

Do to legal reasons I don't think you'll find a new bladder.  You can call Quanta to see what options you have or look for a good used tank. I might still have one left but it's not worth shipping it from CT.

You can cut the top part/ring of the bladder off and re-use it, since it's usually the bladder itself that is damaged/deformed. Thumbs Up
