Heads up in Texas if you have a Texas tag in your year of car. I bought 1972 Tx tags for my car 15 years ago. Got them approved by the Tx DoT and have had them on my car until today. Went in to renew for another 5 years and they told me someone else has that tag number. How can someone else have the same 72 tag? They don't, they have just a regular texas tag with the same number as mine. Apparently the law has changed. She said whoever renews first loses their tag. So I asked when he was going to renew so I could check. Well, his tag expired 6 months ago and he hasn't renewed. So he has a junker up on blocks or something and I get screwed.
Now I have one of those ugly Texas antique tags with the Stutz Bearcat on it.
I refuse to remove my fron 72 tag. Eff em. I think I will put a Corvette logo sticker on my new tag where the stupid surrey with the fringe on top logo is.
UPDATE!
I got a call yesterday from the lady that I dealt with at the Courthouse. She said ever since I left it had been bothering her that I lost my tags to an unregistered other tag. She said she was going to run my vintage tag number again to see if she could get them for me. She called today to tell me I can use them again.
She even said she was going to personally pay the additional 60 buck renew fee if there was one.
Turns out, no fee. I stopped by Kroger on the way to the courthouse and bought her some flowers for going the extra mile. I guess not all county workers are bad.
She's pretty hot too
