Having some braking issues with my '82l! Squint

I've had the front calipers replaced, all 4 sets of pads replaced, the MC replaced, and the brake lines have no leaks...now the problem...the car STILL pulls to the right upon braking. Drives and rides true and straight otherwise.

I suspect something in the suspension might be failing...or it could be an alignment issue?? I followed the wife while she drove the 82, and from behind I saw no 'dog-tailing' of the rear end and then would view the car from the front and found the car to follow true and straight from the rear-view mirror. The tires only have 10k on them and look evenly worn.

Any ideas?? Shrug

It can any one of several issues. Your brake hoses can look OK, but be collapsing internally...if your hoses have any age on them that's probably the likely cause. The next most likely cause is your rotors...the calipers may not be centered on them or they might need machining, which you didn't mention. They could have excessive run out and taking caliper measurements could tell that.

There's always the possibility one or more of your new calipers isn't right, but if the pulling existed before and after replacing them, I doubt if that's the issue.

It doesn't seem likely it's your alignment. Your tracking would be off when not braking as well as braking.

I say replace all your rubber brake lines...front and rear and see if your problem goes away.

Also check your suspension bushings, front and rear. The bushings could be allowing the control arm(s) on the front to deflect enough to cause a pull, as could the rear trailing arm bushings. check carefully the welds on the brackets that the lower control arms bolt to...they have been known to crack, and allow the arms to move under stress.
You may also have a steel line that is collapsed/kinked/plugged somewhere that could cause a pull.

I agree that you should always replace the rubber lines when you replace calipers. And you didn't replace the rear calipers, so they might be suspect.
