OK, I'm still working on my horn but, while I was rechecking the continuity between the steering box and the steering shaft (there isn't any) I also decided to check the Coupler to see if it is the source for the steering slop I have.  It is.

No sense routing a ground bypass if I need a Coupler anyway.

Now I'm trying to find a suitable Coupler.  Seems to be discontinued at the GMReplacement place.  With all the warnings going up on the forums, and after reading Jim Shea's warnings,  I'm now wondering if anybody has bought a suitable replacement lately?  Mine is a '69 but I'm sure the column is newer.

The "Doc" only shows to have the lower couple w/rag. Not the upper, or complete. If the slots in your upper piece are not worn where the two pins ride, you can just get the lower w/rag. If your upper is worn, it needs to also be replaced. The pins on the lower coupler need to fit snug in the slots of the upper to keep from over-stressing the rag joint, and tearing it prematurely.

I ended up getting one from Bair's. Looks NOS. Didn't get an upper yet but I'll decide after I get it out, but there doesn't appear to be any wear.

But I've a question.  There are bolts it the new lower with clips on the other side instead of nuts holding on the rubber and wires, do I need to disconnect these and run them through the upper?

Looks like I need an upper too.  Just took another gander at it.  But on this shot of my upper, does it look seated enough on the steering shaft, or do I have a shaft that was in an accident and needs to come out a little?

OK  I realize that I'm late to the party, but I have been successful more times than not, getting "generic" parts from a "normal" supplier like Rock Auto.  I got a steering coupler from them for my 72 and it was a GM part!  Also new power steering hoses brake lines etc.  Normal replacement items from Rock are usually much less expensive than the Corvvette specialty houses and if they dont work out they have a godd return policy.  Of course for Corvette unique items such as trailing arms etc. I'd go to a Bairs or VB&P.  Just a suggestion.

Thanks Mario.  I checked out Rock Auto, found less expensive parts and have bookmarked them.  I'm sure I'll need more parts in the future (lol).
