I am in the process of up-grading the control arm bushings on my 72'. Should I replace the coil springs? Is there a measurement for length if they are good? I would like to keep it as original as possible.  No racing/rallys, just fun with the bunch at the gatherings.  Thanks    Mark

If you have an assembly manual they give all the height measurement's for the car, if you dont let me know and I can send it to you.

Many after market springs may alter the ride height, if your happy with how it sits, leans in the corners, and reacts to humps and bumps in the road, then let the shocks do the rest. aceinthehole2009-08-03 09:06:31

I put the VBP coils in mine when I did my front suspension.  They are shorter than original ( install real easy) and I guess the stiffer but flatter coils give it a nice ride. The fender height did not change from before.
If you want it original to the point of judging that probably go original.

By the way, Mark, I think you gave me the idea of cleaning the bulb contacts on my tail lights to fix my turn signal problem at the Mystic gathering. I did that and they been working great. Thanks, Man

Well, I have the springs OUT.   Does anyone know the length they are suppose to be. I want to assess the sag factor.  They are progressive wound, tight on top, less on bottom. The ride height is 71/2 in or so.  They were not installed correctly in the pocket when I removed them, so wonderoing if they are O.K.   THANKS    MARK

The front suspendsion on our vettes was taken from the 58-64 chev full size cars, some parts interchange, including the power sterring, impala, bel-air, I don't remember ever seeing progressive wound springs on those cars or any C-3's, your springs might be aftermarket, heated, or saging springs, if you replace the fronts and you still have the original  buggy spring rear you might want to consider replacing it to with a fiberglass one, if you have a glass rear already take the # off of it so you get fronts to match the rear, I believe there are three rear spring rates, you want the fronts to complament the rear for a balanced suspension. anips2009-08-12 12:23:00

THANKS ACE, Mine came out very hard. Length is 16+ in. I would like to replace them with softer ones, but am in a quandry as to which ones to use.  Mine were not in the pocket correctly. Are you interested in selling a set?  P/M me if so.  THANKS

Yea, The front end is complete. All new bushings and springs. What a nice product the ureathane componants are.  I went with black to keep the original look. The SPRINGS, progressive wound, were G.M. with the part tag still on them. They were 16 1/2 in long and came out with a BANG, till they reached the limit of the chain I tied around them. Uneven lenghts and obvious to the fact that they were bottoming out.  New ones are the Grand Touring rate. They are about 12+ in  long and installed SOOO much easier than expected. Shocks are Bilstien Gas and are very nice.  What a difference on the road. The ride height is higher by about 1 in, and is more compliant on the rough spots. It was a real joy to do the work and reap the rewards of a quality automobile. I wont be SShhaakkiinn mama awake on long rides now. THANKS to ALL who replied in P/Ms or posts.  On to the next project. After the snow flies I have a plan for the drive line.  OH, B.T.W. the alignment on the wheels will be done out of house and will be ready for pick-up after work today.
