I have set my choice on Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires, original size per 74; 225/70R15.

Only problem is; my provider tells me that Bridgestones told them it's back order untill at least mid-september.

Just wanna confirm if anybody knows any better and someone/somewhere has some inventory of those.

The problem many face is that tires used on older cars like ours are essentially obsolete.  Tire makers do want to service the market but it's much lower volume than for tires required for modern cars.  Manufacturers don't produce these tires continually like for modern sizes...they make scheduled runs of then a couple times of the year...when there's an out-of-stock or back order situation, it tends to stay that way until the next scheduled run of those tires is made and sent to distributors.

Thanks for the input. 

I have ordered from TireRack in the past and they are great (price & delivery speed).  However, it cost me about 200$ more per set since I am in Canada (exchange rate, customs, taxes and extra delivery fees); so I have to compare.  This time around, my Canadian provider came to the same price, so I'd rather go "kick" the tires in his store than ordering online if it's the same price; plus; he installs them for free!

Turns out I was really lucky they were back order yesterday afternoon, because I lifted the car to remove the half-shaft and surprise....  my current tires rub on the parking brake cable.  That's when everything started to make sense; the previous owner had spacers on the wheels and I replaced the wheels without spacers.  I only drove the car around the block once or twice since then and didn't realized it (besides the "cluck" noise; which is why I'm doing the u-joints right now...).

The PO bough a set of fake rally's on ebay and I'm guessing the backspacing is not proper (4.5" maybe?) so he added the spacers.

I slept on it and I don't want to put spacers back on it so I will go for a wheels & tires package.  I have not decided what I want yet; but American Racing Hopster 16" or 17" would be on my short list.

Back to the drawing board!  Also have to figure out budget first...

I know this is an old post but, I just want to say that the Firehawk Indy 500s I put on my 82 have really impressed me. My gas mileage has gone up 2.5 miles per gallon.  I know that gas mileage is not a pressing issue if you decide to own an older Corvette but, it is nice to know the car is working better when you make a change.  I've had good handling and go/stop performance with the Indy 500s.
