Winter is finally almost done in Northern British Columbia .  Put six months insurance on car and went for a couple of drives last week . Hit a bit of a milestone as I watched odometer roll over 60,000 miles . I have owned car now for 20 years and had 44,000 on it when I first bought . All ran good for first drives of year and now time for more updates.
Dropped car at mechanics for new suspension , brakes , bearings , bushings and front end parts . Will not get to drive again until May 19 because of work , three week shifts out off town . Should make a huge difference with all new parts .

Next step wondering about updating to 17 inch rims and tires . I have put one set of tires on car since I purchased but do not remember what year. In reading other posts as of late about age of tires and problems thought might just as well play it safe and update to larger tires and rims . I did find some BF Goodrich in 15 inch same as what I have but thinking the larger may get me a little better handling to go along with other upgrades as of late.

Any good or bad stories about going to 17 inch over the old 15 inch ?

Thanks to all and happy crusin

Congrats on at least getting a little seat time!!!  Clap
I haven't had the '74 out since 2011! It had 43,000 on it when I bought it in '97....hit 50,000 on the trip to C3 Fest in 2011....hasn't left the ge-raj since....Cry

There are some folks here running the larger diameter rims/tires as you are contemplating. I'm sure they'll jump in with their results soon. Thumbs Up

Definitely a good feeling getting that first ride of the season! Glad you enjoyed it.

I still have the 15"s on my '79, so I can't add any experience on larger tires / rims. Others here will undoubtedly weigh in.

Have had "The Toy" out a few times so far.  Even drove it to work a couple of days!  Sure feels nice after the winter we have had.

I have a set of 16" wheels and tires on
"The Toy" right now.  The rim width is the same as stock and the tires have the same rolling measurements as the 15" stockers.  As long as you keep those two things in mind along with the correct offset you shouldn't have any issues with wheel or tire clearances.

I would have gone to 17" rims if the ones I liked had been made in that size.  Reason?  At the time the selection of tires was much better in the 17" realm than the 16" realm.
