Got the new Goodrich Eagles on the LT-1.
Man they look GREAT!

Smoothed the ride out quite a bit. And they look GREAT!!!!

But we also found a spun inner reece (sp) on the front right hub.
Its way too loose to fix and I guess I need a new hub.

Whats a fellow to do?

If you buy a used hub, make sure the lug nut stud holes are not enlarged. And do NOT buy ones with the studs welded in. Other than that, just look for obvious damage.

We sell a correct rebuilt assembly with new rotor riveted on, studs, and bearings. Since you don't have a good core, the price is $275.00.

Thatnks for the info.
Joel I knew it needed replaced but didnt know whats available.

Now the question to be ask is if I buy 2 new rebuilt hubs, then I dont have to turn the rotors.
So the 2nd hub would be about $70 cheaper, (cost of turning the rotor) and I would have 2 new ones.

The other one is close to 40 years old.
Should I bite the bullet and replace both?

The other one is still tight.

Ida know....if the other rotor is still in serviceable condition, meaning it can be resurfaced/turned, I think I would just get a new one for the one side, turn the rotor on the other one, and enjoy...

before you spend the money, depending how loose the race is try using a center punch and punch the race surface all the way around several times in the hub and see if the race goes in tight, if not you can still get a new one, most likely its the hub not the race thats worn.

Thanks Joe for the center punch idea. We looked at that already and the hub is just too worn.

So here is how I see it. If I replace one I have the cost of turning the hubs once ($70) and only have one new hub.
If for some reason I have to replace the other one in a few years I have to turn both hubs again, (another $70 lets say).

So could one conclude that to buy 2 hubs, lets say from Larry there at Corvette specialties , I get the 2nd one for $130 and if the core is good, less than that?

Isnt that "kind of" buy 1 get the second one for half off? Clap

Now Larry what makes a good core?
If the hub was good I wouldnt need to replace it now would I? Wink

I'am a little confused, the front hub assy. usually the HUB and ROTOR come as a assy. drill the rivets out and the hub and rotor seperate, get a new or good used HUB and remove the rivets from the bad assy. and put the used ROTOR on the new HUB and you don't have to turn anything if you use the same pads, when time comes for brakes on the front again buy two new ROTORS and and a set of pads and put em on your HUBS and again you don't have to turn anything, just make sure not to buy E-bay junk, get good ones that come balanced, think about that one. Wits End

I have read pages about drilling them rivets.

I remember thinking, "note to self, dont ever try that".

Really I think getting 2 nice new rebuilt hubs with the rotors on and not worrying about it is the way to go.

If you have the money it is alot easier, when you return your old assy.'s as cores when they rebuild them thats what they do, on the rears you have to drill the rivets to get the rotors off if they haven't been removed before, rotors are about $50-70 ea. I believe, good luck.
