As in my previous topics I have a 68 and I have replaced the power steering valve, pump and cylinder. Hey that is the whole thing!!!!But it still steers like a truck. So I put it in the shop and even the shop is having problems. Maybe I got a bad part from Corvette Central or not. The shop thought I may have reversed the power steering hoses coming from the valve to the cylinder. I don't think so. The hoses make a cross over on the valve and then it looks like the top hose on the valve will go to the bottom connection on the cylinder and the bottom hose on the valve will go to the top connection on the cylinder. What I have seen in the books it looks to be this way.

The shop reversed these hoses and the steering went crazy and the cylinder was going in and out at will. So where do we go from here. The pump seems to work because it sucks the fluid down when I replaced it. The valve adjusting nut will make the cylinder move in and out. Any ideas on what I can tell the shop to try to do on this now.

Sounds like the control valve is at fault. Crossing the lines proves the pump and the cylinder are working...at least it does to me. I'd be suspicious of the control valve..

I agree with Adam, when I first bought my 77 I had to replace the steering control valve. after about 5 years it went bad again. When I went to replace it again I had to go through 2 valve before I got one that worked correctly. That one lasted about 2 to 3 years.That is why I went with the steeroids upgrade. Adam might reply if this would work.

You should be able to disconnect the steering column from the steering control valve and move it by hand (keeping clear of any moveing parts) the wheels should move with the movement of the valve. If the centering adjustment moves the wheels but they will not move by moving the relay valve that would mean its bad

I've had the same problem. Bought a new control valve from Vette Brakes and Products. Fixed!
