Quick question and hopefully quick answer....are the rear calpers on a 74 the same with the exception of which ports are used for bleeders and fluid line? Ordered 2 new ones from MAM a left and a right. the 2 I received have a LH stamped in them and the same casting numbers on them. The 2 old ones have casting numbers with  different last numbers. Called MAM and they said didn't know and would check into it. Didn't get a call back the rest of the day. Would like to get them on this weekend if the only difference is the bleeder and line locations. Confused danascar2011-04-29 18:11:38

The bleeders on the calipers have to be at the top when the caliper is mounted. I dont have mine here at the house but I would think if they have the same numbers they would have to be the same side. I dont think you got both sides but as you suspected you probably got 2 of the same side. Not what you wanted to hear if you planned on installing them this weekend. Hope that makes sense.

Calipers are made Left & Right...they will only bolt up properly one way. If you put them on the wrong side, the bleeders will be on the bottom instead of the top.
The correct calipers will have the bleeders and the inlet line at the top, and the bolt holes for the spindles to the inside.
Also, the rear calipers have two bleeders at the top, instead of the one bleeder for the front calipers.
btw..the holes for the bleeders are different than the holes for the line...the bleeder holes have a tapered seat in them, where the inlet line hole will have an inverted seat for the flared brake line...you cannot mix/match these fittings. Well...you can, but it will leak like a sieve, and it will ruin the seats for both.

Really confused now! Just did a test fit and both bleeders are on top on both sides and the inlet ports are where they should be. They bolt up okay, all holes line up. Is it possible, although not likely, that they are stamped and have the wrong casting numbers on them?

Do they match up to your old calipers? If the calipers will bolt to your brackets correctly and the bleeders are on the top and match the calipers you are replacing, I wouldnt get concern with the part number stamping. After your last post description it sounds as tho you will be ok. Hopefully your bleeding of the brakes goes well.
Best of Luck

You have the correct set of calipers...just ignore the casting or stamped info. Rebuilt stuff doesn't always follow proper protocol for numbers. If they bolted up, and the lines/bleeders are up in the righ position, yer good to go.

Just a bit of info on a brake sight (Duntof Braking) they spacify it will cost more for the correct casting numbers. I looked at some of other catalogs and it doesn't mention anything about casting numbers?Question

Well...they went on with absolutely no problem other than I had to tweak the bends on the new stainless brakelines going to them. Still need to borrow my son-in-laws brake bleeder kit and get them bled. Still not a single word from MAM on my question. Thumbs Down Need to get new parking brakes adjusted and the brakes should be good to go!

Same calipers were used from '65 up....lots of different casting numbers to choose from, so if you want "correct" numbers, it will usually cost more.
Glad ya got em on, anyway.
